How to care for the newly bought peony

How to care for the newly bought peony

1. Soil

The soil requirements of peony are average, as long as it is fertile and breathable sandy loam, it can grow well. It is best to use nearby garden soil, leaf mold and a mixture of river sand. When you buy the soil, check the quality first. If there are no lumps, you can continue to use it. If the soil is clumpy, you can make new soil using garden soil, leaf mold and river sand.

2. Environment

After buying it, you need to give it a warm indoor temperature, and placing it in a semi-shaded environment will help it start growing as soon as possible. It is afraid of high temperatures and strong light, so it is necessary to cool it down appropriately in the summer. It is best to control it in an air-conditioned room and provide it with sunshade. Maintain good ventilation to avoid high temperatures and the growth of bacteria. Increase the air humidity appropriately. You can use a humidifier or spray some water around frequently.

3. Watering

It can tolerate a period of drought, so water it as soon as the soil becomes dry, but be sure not to allow water to accumulate in the soil, as this can easily lead to root rot. Water once every one or two days. When it is cloudy for a long time or in winter when the growth is slow and the light is weak, water it once every 3-5 days.

4. Fertilization

It is a plant that likes fertilizer very much. When changing the pot or soil, you can first add some decomposed organic fertilizer or nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer as base fertilizer. During the growing period, because a large amount of nutrients are needed, we can fertilize once every half a month or so. It is more convenient to use liquid fertilizers of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. No fertilizer is needed in winter and for a period of time after flowering.
