The Cultural Legend of Daxuesu

The Legend of Daisetsu - The Flower of the Royal Family

According to folk legend, the Daxuesu is a famous family flower of the Duan family, prime ministers of the Nanzhao and Dali kingdoms during the Tang and Song dynasties. The exact written record is in "Nanzhong Youfanglu" written by Yang Andao during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty: "Daxuesu, a famous flower of the Duan family. It is mostly produced in Wuliang Mountain. It blooms in the first month of the year, with two to four flowers per plant, seven leaves, one-fourth of a fen wide and more than a foot long, like weeping willows. The stems are pale white like jade, as thick as chopsticks, and upright, which are of the best quality. The petals are lotus-shaped, white as snow, with a herringbone shoulder, two inches wide, the tongue is pale white like wax and graceful, and the flowers are fragrant."

It can be seen that Daxuesu has a long history of cultivation and has a profound historical accumulation. Moreover, as a family heirloom flower of the Duan family, the snow-white lily has a noble charm and adds a different ornamental value.

As a carrier of history and culture, Daxuesu has been deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. It has long been loved by local people in Yunnan, and people are proud to own a pot of it.

The Legend of Daxuesu

There is also a widely circulated legend about Daxuesu.

According to legend, a man from Heqing went to Shigu to do business. He was planning to sell wine there. This man from Heqing was driving his horse along a gloomy and winding path with an honest man. On the way, they picked up a handful of grass from the roadside and put it under the horse's pack that was tilted to one side to balance it. But on the way, they encountered bandits, so they abandoned their horses and fled. The two had no choice but to beg for food and return to Heqing.

When the two men returned to Heqing, they found that the horses had also returned, and the grass used to pad the pack was still neatly placed under the saddle. They all believed that it was the magic herb that saved the horse's life, so they planted the herb, and later it bloomed into beautiful flowers.

In order to express their gratitude to the orchid that saved them, the two men cultivated it carefully. Later, this orchid became the ancestor of Heqing Hualongsu.

This legend certainly has a lot of legendary and romantic colors, but it cannot be denied that it adds a touch of mystery to Daxuesu, making her even more eye-catching.
