Main varieties

The Chinese rose varieties that are edible as specified by the Ministry of Light Industry include: Shandong Pingyin rose, Gansu Yongdeng bitter water rose, Anhui Suxian traditional purple branch rose, Shandong Pingyin Fenghua rose, Shandong Dingtao rose, Henan Zhoukou Shangshui rose

The main types of imported edible roses are: the Bulgarian and Moroccan "Damask Rose" (actually Turkic Rose) and the French Thousand-Leaf Rose (actually: Centifolia Rose).

What is sold on the market nowadays are all dried flower buds, and they are basically bitter water roses, with a small amount of Bulgarian roses. The main difference between the two is the size and color of the buds. The former is small, with purple buds, while the latter is large, with pink buds.

Storage method

Edible roses bloom only once a year, with a flowering period of about 20 days. How to prepare, store and supply them all year round is a difficult problem. At present, the processing technology is still at the stage of dried flower bud finished products. There are two main processing methods for dried flower buds: shade drying and oven drying. The most valuable thing about roses is the volatile substances they contain, and the processing of dried buds, whether shade-dried or quick-dried, only retains the prototype of rose buds. 90% of the effective substances are evaporated during the drying process. A large amount of effective substances will be evaporated, and the processed dried buds have lost most of their original health and beauty value.

Damascus Rose

Damascus rose, a kind of spice "rose", belongs to the classical garden "rose", a bushy shrub plant native to Syria . It has been widely cultivated in France since the 14th century. Currently, Damascus rose is the main rose variety grown in Bulgaria and is also recognized as a high-quality rose variety in the world.

Its leaves are gray-green and the flower stems are covered with stiff hairs; it blooms double flowers with the edges of the petals slightly lighter in color and a satin-like texture; there are three main varieties: light pink, pink and white, among which the light pink variety has the best quality. Damascus rose essential oil is considered to be the best rose essential oil and has high economic value.

French Centifolia Rose

French Thousand Leaf Rose is a variety introduced directly from France. The reason why it is precious is, firstly, because of its pleasant fragrance and high requirements for the growing environment, and secondly, because the flowering branches only bloom once, and the old branches will no longer bloom the next year. New branches must be bred every year, so the yield is far lower than that of domestic varieties.

French Thousand Leaf Rose is warm in nature and sweet in taste. Xinjiang Hotan Rose
