How to make a potted holly

Choice of flower pots

When making holly potted plants, it is best to use purple clay pots. The color of the pots should be mainly light colors, such as light yellow, light purple, etc. This can highlight the strength of the holly branches and the lush green leaves, as well as the brightness of the holly fruits. The contrast between the two can better highlight the beauty of the holly tree. The shape of the flowerpot can be selected according to your preferences and the shape that is suitable for your home and courtyard.

Soil selection

The soil for potted holly should be loose and have good ventilation and drainage properties. On the other hand, choosing fertile soil rich in humus is very beneficial to the growth of holly. In terms of pH, the soil can be neutral soil or slightly acidic soil. In order to ensure the good growth of holly roots, we generally choose air-dried leaf mold mixed with 20% sandy soil. This kind of soil is rich in nutrients and well ventilated.

Planting potted plants

First, we need to select a holly tree that is suitable for potted plants. We can choose a holly tree that has been planted artificially, or we can go to the mountains and find a suitable holly tree ourselves, dig out the soil ball and bring it home to plant. The best time of the year to pot the holly tree is in spring, before it sprouts. Use a soil ball to protect the roots. Water it immediately after planting it in the pot, and make sure the soil is thoroughly watered. Then place the pot in a cool and ventilated place.

Processing of potted plants

We can prune the potted plants we have planted. We can combine "climbing and tying" with "pruning". Climbing and tying can be done in winter, and pruning can be done in spring. The main trunk of the holly can be climbed and tied, while the small branches can be pruned. We can prune the holly tree into a curved trunk style, straight trunk style, etc.
