What to do if Christmas cactus only grows leaves but does not bloom

What to do if Christmas cactus only grows leaves but does not bloom

1. Fertilizer problem

(1) Specific reasons: We all know that different fertilizers have different functions. So, if the wrong fertilizer is applied, it is likely that the leaves will grow well, but the flowers will not bloom as expected. Specifically, there is too much fertilizer containing the element N. On the contrary, there is too little fertilizer containing P and K elements. Fertilizer type is not properly selected, which is a common reason.

(2) Solution: Therefore, before flowering, it is necessary to reduce the application of nitrogen-containing fertilizers and use some phosphorus fertilizers. Doing so will not only help the formation of flower buds, but also make the colors of the flowers appear more vivid and bright.

2. No pruning

(1) Specific reasons: Proper pruning also plays an important role in the flowering of plants. This is because its flowers form on top of its new leaves. Pruning will cause new leaves to grow, which is one of the key factors in making it bloom.

(2) Solution: It is best to cut off the first one or two nodes in mid-October each year. This will help it grow flowers.

3. Unsuitable light

(1) Specific reasons: The inappropriate lighting mentioned here does not simply mean too much or too little, but rather a poor combination of day and night. It is a short-day plant, requiring eight to ten hours of light per day. If there is sufficient light during the day, do not expose it to light at night. If the light exposure is too long, it will also affect the differentiation of flower buds.

(2) Solution: Reasonably match the time of receiving light during the day and at night. It is best to have plenty of light during the day and keep it in darkness at night.
