What to do if the leaves of the peace lily turn black? It’s easier to solve the problem if you find the cause!

1. Caused by pests and diseases

The main reason for the blackening of its leaves is damage by pests and diseases. Among them, brown spot disease is the most important disease. This disease usually occurs in poorly ventilated rooms, when the room is hot and humid, or when there is insufficient ventilation. At first, some brown spots will appear on the leaves, which will continue to expand, and many black spots will appear on the leaves. The leaves will gradually turn black, and in severe cases they will fall off. The disease is most severe from April to May every year.

Prevention and control: When there are few diseased leaves, we can pick them off and burn them. In addition, spraying some medicines can also be effective in prevention and control. If you find a few spots on your home potted plants, you can check their roots. If some have rotted, you can cut off the rotten parts and replant them with clean and fresh potting soil. After repotting, remember to spray more water and water less. Just keep the soil in the pot moist.

2. Long-term lack of light

If the peace lily is kept indoors for a long time and cannot fully enjoy the sunlight, its leaves will easily turn black. Then we need to find an environment with more light, especially in winter. We cannot put it in a semi-shaded or hidden place. We should keep it under sufficient light. In the summer, you only need to provide half shade.

3. Caused by improper watering

Watering is the most frequent and important step in the process of growing flowers, especially in winter, when alternating dry and wet watering is required. The peace lily itself prefers a more humid environment, and its leaves are relatively thick, which can prevent water loss very well, so at this time watering can be carried out by dry-wet exchange. In summer or when the growth is more vigorous, it needs more water, so we must water it enough.
