What to do if small-leaf gardenia buds fall off

What to do if small-leaf gardenia buds fall off

Proper amount of water and fertilizer

This kind of flower prefers fertilizer, so it will not grow well when the fertilizer is not balanced. Therefore, it is better to choose milder organic fertilizers, such as bean cake, peanut bran, etc. If the dosage is too much, it will easily lead to excessive growth of branches and leaves, which will affect the formation of flower buds. Even if flower buds appear, they may wither before they bloom. In addition to this, if the amount of watering is uneven, sometimes more and sometimes less, it can also cause flowers and buds to fall off, so you must pay attention when watering.

You can use more phosphorus fertilizer when flower buds are differentiating, but be careful not to make it too concentrated. Too concentrated fertilizer is also one of the reasons for bud drop.

Don't change the pot

When the plants are growing well, try not to disturb the soil or pots, especially when the flower buds have formed. Because if their living environment is suddenly changed at this time, the balance they have established before will be broken, and it will be difficult for them to adapt physiologically. The roots will not be able to adapt to the new environment all at once, and not only may the buds fall off, but the leaves may also fall off, or even the whole plant may die.

Sufficient light

Gardenia needs light in winter. If it is not exposed to sunlight for a long time, the leaves may not be able to photosynthesize, so it is normal for the flowers and buds to fall off.

Enough iron

Iron deficiency in gardenias will definitely cause chlorosis and can also affect their growth and flowering. This is because nutrients can only be absorbed well under slightly acidic conditions, so you can add an appropriate amount of ferrous nitrate, which can not only prevent yellowing but also make the flowers stronger.

Proper pruning

Some flower lovers may feel reluctant to cut off their branches, but too dense branches will definitely affect the formation of flower buds and is also a reason for bud drop, so the branches should be pruned in time, which will not only make the tree shape beautiful, but also make the flowers bloom better.
