Your plants are growing wildly, and this may not be a good thing

Succulent

The stems of the elongated succulent plants are thin and tender, the leaves are sparse and narrow, and they do not stand crookedly. Some people say that elongated succulent plants are equivalent to disfigurement, and the owners must be very upset.

reason

1. The plant itself is phototropic. If there is insufficient light or most of the ultraviolet rays are blocked by glass, the succulent plants will start to grow tall in order to save themselves.

2. Excessive watering will cause waterlogging in the pot soil, making it difficult for the roots of the succulent to breathe. Excess water will be stored in the stems, causing the vacuoles in the stems to swell. Organic matter will be concentrated on constructing stem cells, causing the stems to grow too long.

3. Too much nitrogen fertilizer. Most plant compound fertilizers are mainly nitrogen fertilizers, but nitrogen fertilizer will accelerate the cell division of succulents. If photosynthesis cannot keep up, the succulents will immediately grow tall, and the growth will be weak and easy to fall over.

way

1. Break off the old leaves. That is, break off the leaves that have grown for a long time, only break off the leaf part, and leave the petiole, let it dry and fall off naturally to avoid leaving scars. Then move the plant to a lighted place. This method can be used to quickly cultivate old piles of succulents. Pay attention to the plants grown outdoors. Before the wounds heal, they should be placed in a rain-proof and ventilated place and do not water them.

2. "Beheading" means cutting off the top of the plant. After a while, side buds will grow and it will become a clumping potted plant. The cut leaves and stems can be used for cuttings.

The "Beheading" Trilogy——

Step 1: Select the location where you want to cut off the head and then cut it.

Step 2: Remove 2 to 4 leaves at the base of the cut head to make it easier for the cut head to take root in the soil. Leave the base of the cut head in the original pot without moving. After pruning, place the roots in a ventilated place to dry.

Step 3: Insert the healed head into new soil, and the head will regain its compact beauty. The broken leaves are used for leaf cuttings, and each leaf gives birth to a new life.

3. Legit growth is irreversible. Once it occurs, it will spread extremely quickly. Try to avoid leggy growth and control light and water. Succulents need to be exposed to sufficient sunlight every day (except at noon in summer). Do not water them too much at normal times. Follow the principle of watering when the soil is completely dry and not watering when it is not dry. Pay attention to ventilation and control the amount of fertilizer applied.

Taking root

The plant is light-loving, drought-resistant and grows fast. The mature plant can be up to 150 cm tall, which is quite spectacular. But if the light and water are not properly handled, it will become thin and long, and even show signs of withering. This is leggy growth!

reason

1. Insufficient light

The growing environment is too shady, such as an office, and there is not enough light for the plant to grow strong.

2. Excessive water

Flos Ampelopsis is drought tolerant, but it can grow well when it has the right amount of water. Too much water will cause the plant to grow too tall and its roots to rot easily; too little water will cause it to not grow large.

way

1. If you are a flower lover who keeps it in the office or living room, you can move it to a sunny place and expose it to the sun so that it will become strong and healthy.

2. The problem of excessive rooting and growth caused by water retention can be solved by beheading. Plants that take root in the air are easier to propagate by cuttings and have strong reproductive abilities. If you find that it is growing too tall, you can cut off its head and then do cuttings. Don’t let the newly grown seedlings repeat the same mistakes. The old plants can sprout new buds after being repotted.

Golden Sedum

The golden sphenanthe in many flower lovers' homes looks very lush, with yellow leaves, but the necks are also very long, and the distance between the leaves is elongated, making it look sparse and ugly. At first, the stems are upright, but soon they will lie down like weeds.

reason

Less light, more water

Golden Spartina grows rapidly in cool seasons, and grows normally when light and water are in harmony. However, if it is watered too much (without water accumulation) or lacks light, Golden Spartina will grow at an excessively long rate and soon become leggy grass.

way

1. Cutting and grafting

The golden spathiphyllum has a strong reproductive ability, so it doesn’t matter if it grows too tall. Just cut off the top branches and leaves and re-graft them, and a new pot will grow soon. For the remaining parts, try to cut off but keep some tender buds, as new leaves will sprout again after a while.

2. Light supplement and water control

Move the golden spathiphyllum to a sunny environment, and ensure that there is sufficient sunlight even for cuttings. If the plant is exposed to more sunlight during the growing season, its leaves will turn golden yellow and the plant will become more compact and beautiful. Even in the hot summer season, there is no need for shading.

In addition, watering should be done in moderation. Keep the soil in the pot moist during the growing period to avoid waterlogging and long-term rain. When the temperature is below 5 degrees or above 30 degrees, pay attention to water control to prevent root rot. In winter, place it in a place with sufficient light, control watering and keep the soil from freezing.

Pothos

As a climbing plant, it is natural for the green ivy to grow taller. However, if the internodes of your green ivy become longer, the plant shape becomes sparse, and the leaves are thin, it is growing too tall. Wildly growing green ivy is not so beautiful, so try to avoid it.

reason

A few days of rain or excessive watering, too dense plants or long-term exposure to too dim light or insufficient light can cause the plants to grow too tall.

way

1. Growth point downward method

If the growth point is pointing upwards and causing the green radish to keep growing upwards, move the growth point of the green radish (that is, the growth node on each branch and leaf) downwards, and keep it downward for a week. It will return to its original position soon.

2. Update method

Cut the overly long parts directly short, that is, 15-20 cm away from the potting soil, to allow the green ivy to grow new branches and leaves. This method has a relatively long cycle, but the newly grown plants will be stronger.

3. Pruning and cutting method

In order to avoid waste, you can trim the top branches appropriately and then cut them off as cutting materials. They are also very beautiful as hanging plants for viewing.

asparagus

Asparagus fern is majestic and elegant, but after three or four years, it will grow tall climbing branches and become messy and unsightly due to its wild growth, which is not conducive to viewing.

(Author: WhoseExtra Source: Baidu Post Bar)

reason

The "crazy growth" of asparagus fern is a normal phenomenon in its growth. Excessive fertilization, watering and insufficient light during maintenance can also cause the occurrence of excessive growth.

way

1. prune. If you don’t want the branches of asparagus fern to grow tall, you can trim the long branches. In this way, you can still maintain the cloud-like bonsai posture. However, the cut asparagus fern will continue to grow, wasting its nutrients in vain. If you want to trim it, you can consider trimming it from the roots to the soil level for aesthetic reasons.

2. 2. Fixed shape. For the "crazy growing" asparagus fern, you can take advantage of the situation and use bamboo strips or iron wire to weave your favorite spherical, fan-shaped or tic-tac-toe-shaped frame, fix it on the flowerpot, and provide a space for the long branches of the asparagus fern to climb. As the asparagus fern stretches, it can be pulled as needed to distribute it evenly on the surface of the frame. Where it needs to be fixed, it can be tied with a thin rope.

3. For old plants, their basic growth trend has been determined. If the nutrients vary from too much to too little, it will cause excessive growth. It is best to apply little or no fertilizer. Just take the opportunity to repot the plant by filling the bottom of the pot with fresh soil or applying a small amount of fertilizer to maintain the plant's steady growth momentum.

Five-color plum

reason

1. Less light and more water. The five-color plum, which is native to tropical America, likes light very much. When the five-color plum lacks light and the amount of water is relatively large, it will easily start to grow wildly.

2. Apply nitrogen fertilizer more often. Nitrogen fertilizer is the most effective fertilizer in promoting plant growth. If nitrogen fertilizer is applied excessively, it will not only be detrimental to the blooming of flowers, but will also easily cause the plants to grow too tall.

way

1. Don't plant too densely, expose them to more sunlight, and control water. Just keep the soil in the pot slightly moist.

2. The five-color plum blossom period (May-October) does require more nutrients, but liquid fertilizer should be applied thinly, and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be used as the main fertilizers. A small amount of nitrogen fertilizer can be applied, or even no nitrogen fertilizer can be applied. You can use either special fertilizers for flowers or special fertilizers for the flowering period, but don't apply too much nitrogen fertilizer.

3. The leggy growth of young five-color plum seedlings can be saved by using light, water, fertilizer or dwarfing agents, but the leggy growth of mature plants can only be saved by beheading and cuttings. Cut off the top of the plant and take cuttings for maintenance. It will take 15-30 days for the roots to grow.

Finally, to prevent plants from growing too tall, keep these three points in mind: do not plant too densely, provide sufficient light, and provide sufficient water. I hope everyone’s plants can grow healthily.
