What fertilizer is suitable for Podocarpus

What fertilizer is suitable for Podocarpus

Fertilization time of Podocarpus

Podocarpus is a plant that likes fertilizer. When applying fertilizer, we must follow the principle of "applying less but more frequently", which should both meet its growth needs and prevent it from suffering from fertilizer damage.

During the growth period, Podocarpus is usually fertilized once every 10-15 days, and water is irrigated once the next day to dilute the fertilizer. When the spring and autumn shoots begin to grow, they should be top-dressed once each.

What fertilizer to use for Podocarpus

1. Organic fertilizer : It is best to use organic fertilizers such as cake fertilizer and manure to supplement the nutrition of Podocarpus, which is not easy to cause fertilizer damage and can help the roots absorb water and nutrients.

2. Nitrogen fertilizer : Spring and autumn are the vigorous growth stages of Podocarpus. We need to supplement it with nitrogen fertilizer to promote the growth and development of branches and leaves, but it must be diluted before use. It is more appropriate to fertilize once every 10-15 days.

3. Potassium fertilizer : Before Podocarpus blooms, we need to add potassium fertilizer to it so that the flower buds can differentiate better. But please note that potassium fertilizer should not be used during the dormant period of Podocarpus, as it is easy to cause fertilizer damage.

4. Phosphorus fertilizer : During the flowering period of Podocarpus, we can fertilize it mainly with phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. This can make the flower buds of Podocarpus healthier and obtain more nutrients during the flowering period.

Fertilization method of Podocarpus

During the growing period, apply organic liquid fertilizer with a concentration of 1:4 once. Dig trenches when applying and cover with soil after application. Water thoroughly the next day. Fertilizer is not required at other times. Just add a little fertilizer to the water and carry out normal maintenance.

Matters Needing Attention in Fertilizing Podocarpus

1. When fertilizing Podocarpus, it is best to water it with thin fertilizer water and apply thin fertilizer frequently to avoid fertilizer damage. The temperature is relatively low in winter, and the fertilizer control treatment generally adopted cannot directly water the roots, otherwise it will corrode the root system.

2. If the Podocarpus we are growing is planted in the ground, it is best to apply top dressing in spring and autumn. When applying fertilizer, you can dig a ditch next to the plant and put the fertilizer in it. It would be better to water it once the next day.
