Why are the leaves of Anthurium turning yellow and dry?

Self-growth

Metabolism

If you find that the leaves of anthurium are turning yellow, pay attention to the condition of other leaves. If the leaves are fresh yellow-green and the flowers are growing well, it means that new leaves are growing, and it is normal for old leaves to turn yellow and fall off.

Therefore, during the flowering period, remove old leaves in time and cut off yellow leaves. Clean up the dead branches on the surface of the potting soil in time to avoid affecting flowering.

Bacterial infection

If the leaves of anthurium turn yellow and dry, it is likely caused by bacteria. You can spray 0.3% solution of garlic juice, 0.2% solution of vinegar, or use special medicines such as carbendazim and thiophanate-methyl for treatment.

External Environment

Unsuitable soil

The soil and water in most areas of the north contain a lot of salt and alkali, and lack the soluble iron elements needed for plant growth. If the soil is not changed for a long time, the plants will lack nutrients and the leaves will gradually lose their green color and turn yellow.

You can buy professional acidic soil from a flower shop, or treat the original soil. Add oxalic acid to the soil to change its pH. You can also water the plant with some acidic water every week by diluting it with lemonade or vinegar.

Air Drying

Anthurium requires higher air humidity to grow. When the air is too dry indoors in winter, the leaf tips will often dry and turn yellow, or the leaf edges will become scorched, or the leaves will develop scorch spots and curled edges.

According to the growth characteristics of Anthurium, increase the air humidity appropriately and spray the leaves and the surrounding environment frequently. When caring for the plants in winter, try to keep them away from heating and air conditioning vents.

Insufficient light

If Anthurium is placed in a shaded place or a place with insufficient light for a long time, it will grow weak, have thin and yellow leaves, and no or few flowers. During the flowering period, the plant should be placed in a place with sufficient light but no direct sunlight, and the light intensity can be increased appropriately.

Unsuitable temperature

If the indoor temperature is too low in winter, the leaves will turn yellow; if the room temperature is too high, the plant will evaporate too much and the roots will not be supplied with enough water and nutrients, which will also cause the leaves to turn yellow. In winter, people usually move the plants indoors near doors and windows. When the doors are opened, the sudden changes in temperature will cause the leaves to turn yellow. Therefore, the indoor temperature should be kept relatively stable.

Artificial maintenance

Overwatering

The new leaves of Anthurium turn yellow, while the old leaves are normal. This is usually caused by excessive watering and too frequent watering, which makes the soil in the pot too wet for a long time or even waterlogged, causing some fibrous roots to rot, hindering normal respiration and nutrient absorption, and causing the leaves to gradually turn yellow and fall off.

The accumulated water in the basin should be drained out in time. If the plant is in an environment where the soil is too wet for a long time, you can remove the plant from the pot, dry the soil and then replant it. After that, water it normally and the leaves will gradually return to green.

Uneven fertilization

Insufficient fertilizer application, or failure to change the pot or soil for a long time will lead to a lack of nutrients such as nitrogen in the soil, resulting in weak branches and leaves, and thin and yellow leaves. In addition, excessive fertilization will cause new leaves to become thick and uneven, while old leaves will become dry, brown and fall off.

If too little fertilizer is applied, trace mineral elements should be added. You can use fully water-soluble fertilizers such as "Hua Duo Duo". "If the leaves turn yellow due to excessive fertilization, you should stop fertilizing immediately and increase watering. In serious cases, you can remove part of the old soil, replace it with new soil, and replant and manage it normally.
