What to do if the heart of Clivia is rotten

Treatment of minor heart rot

When the heartbreak is not very serious, it is still possible to save it.

At the beginning, the young leaves in the center of the plant begin to rot, and the rotten leaves should be removed in time.

Use a paper towel to wipe off the sap that has flowed out, keep the surface dry, and place the plant in a ventilated and bright place, avoiding strong light.

Wait until the leaf wounds are completely healed and the center is dry, then resume normal maintenance. Try to keep the air humidity low and spray less water on the leaves. In less serious cases, the leaves will gradually grow out, but if not handled in time, the following situation will occur

How to deal with serious heart rot

If you are sure that the plant cannot be saved, just remove all the leaves on one side of the plant, the sooner the better. This ensures that water does not accumulate in the center of the plant, which could cause further damage. Cutting off the leaves can also reduce nutrient consumption and facilitate the growth of new branches. The specific steps are:

Use your hands to break off the leaves on one side of the plant one by one until the rotten pseudobulb is exposed.

Use sterilized bamboo sticks to remove the rotten parts until the bulb returns to white.

Control the water for 2 to 3 days, prepare a larger pot, replace the soil, and replant.

Maintenance after a broken heart

Usually, spray liquid fertilizers, such as urea and potassium dihydrogen phosphate, on the leaves, and use the remaining leaves to promote root growth. At the same time, apply thin liquid fertilizer to the pot to promote the germination of leaf buds.

The amount of watering should be controlled. Do not water within a week after treating the heart rot. After a week, just keep the soil moist to avoid water accumulation. Pay special attention to ensuring that the wound is relatively dry.

Clivia grows quickly, and as long as the rotten heart is dealt with in time, it will sprout soon. Normally, 1 to 2 buds will sprout every year, and within 2 years, 10 to 15 leaves will grow, turning into a mature plant.
