What are the common diseases of Sansevieria and how to prevent and control them?

1. Leaf spot

Symptoms: This disease mainly occurs on the leaves, and nearly circular or oblong spots will appear. They are reddish-brown in color, with yellow edges, and are slightly concave. The spots will then fall off, and in severe cases, it can cause stem rot.

Prevention and control: Do not water too much at normal times, reduce the humidity of the soil, and spray Bordeaux mixture 2-3 times in the early stage of the disease.

2. Soft rot

Symptoms: After being infected with this disease, the leaves will turn gray-yellow, water-soaked soft rot will appear at the base of the stem, and the roots will also rot and die.

Prevention and control: Apply more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers during the vigorous growth period in spring and autumn, remove diseased leaves promptly after discovery, and spray pesticides for treatment when the disease first starts.

3. Sunburn

Symptoms: This disease is mainly caused by sunburn, which causes the affected area to wrinkle and wilt. In severe cases, it can also lead to water accumulation and rot.

Prevention and control: Pay attention to shade, avoid strong light, and strengthen ventilation management.

4. Rot

Symptoms: This disease also affects the leaves. Initially, there will be water-soaked spots, which will then turn into dark gray and irregular shapes, and later become dry and sunken.

Prevention and control: Spray the soil with fungicide, and spray carbendazim or methyl thiophanate when the disease first occurs.

5. Anthrax

Symptoms: Lesions will appear on the leaf tips or edges, there will also be inconspicuous rings, and some small black spots will appear on the leaves.

Prevention and control: Cut off the diseased leaves in winter and spring, spray Anthracnose-Fome wettable powder or use Benomyl at the early stage of the disease.
