How many times does Oncidium bloom in a year? What should we do after the flowering period?

1. How many times a year does it bloom?

Oncidium can only bloom once a year. The specific flowering period depends on the environment and is not completely fixed. It usually blooms around October in autumn, has a short flowering period, and has high requirements for the environment. Usually, you should provide it with a relatively warm environment and more sunshine. If the light is sufficient, a lot of nutrients will be accumulated, which will promote the blooming of flowers. If there is a lack of light, it is likely to not bloom. In addition, if you encounter a dry climate environment, you should spray water frequently so that the plant can bloom as scheduled.

2. What to do after the flowering period

1. Prune the remaining flowers: After the Oncidium has finished blooming, the remaining flowers should be pruned off in time to reduce the loss of nutrients, which can prepare for the later growth and wintering.

2. Apply fertilizer in moderation: A lot of nutrients are consumed during the flowering period, so you need to apply fertilizer after flowering. Note that you only need to apply it once, and not excessively, otherwise it will cause fertilizer damage. Choose phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. Applying them in appropriate amounts can not only nourish the plant, but also improve its resistance to cold, which is beneficial for wintering.

3. Move indoors: The temperature will gradually drop after the flowering period. Its cold resistance is not very high, so it should be moved to a warm place in time. The temperature should be kept between 10-15 degrees. If it is too low, it will easily cause frost damage, hinder growth, and prevent it from safely surviving the winter.
