Which month is suitable for planting Phalaenopsis?

It is best to sow Phalaenopsis in spring. The suitable temperature for Phalaenopsis during its growth stage is 26-27℃, and 19-21℃ during its flowering stage. It prefers a warm and humid environment.

How to grow Phalaenopsis

1. Matrix selection

Ordinary soil is not suitable for Phalaenopsis. Instead, a medium with good water retention and drainage properties should be selected, such as a mixture of sphagnum moss, bark silk , expanded clay, charcoal, etc. Since sphagnum moss is perishable, the substrate needs to be replaced regularly to maintain its freshness.

2. Moisture management

During the peak growing season in spring and summer, Phalaenopsis orchids need to be watered once a day, and the humidity of the plant can be maintained by spraying 2 to 3 times. In autumn and winter, as the temperature drops, the frequency of watering should be reduced, watering about once every 2 to 5 days, avoid spraying, and keep the substrate slightly moist.

3. Lighting conditions

Phalaenopsis prefers a semi-shaded growing environment and is suitable for scattered light rather than direct sunlight. In summer, appropriate shade is needed to protect the leaves from damage by strong light. When growing indoors, it should be placed in a place with sufficient diffuse light.

4. Temperature control

Phalaenopsis needs to grow in a warm and humid environment, and the most suitable growth temperature is 16℃ to 30℃. In the autumn and winter seasons and at the turn of winter and spring, due to the low temperatures, it is necessary to pay attention to warming to maintain its growth vitality.

5. Air humidity

When growing Phalaenopsis , higher air humidity is ideal. When it is difficult to adjust the humidity in home cultivation, you can gradually allow the plants to adapt to the environment and adjust it by reducing the number of spraying times, and stop spraying after September to October.

6. Fertilization strategy

Apply nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer once a week during the peak growth period; apply fertilizer once a month during the slow growth season. Before flowering, nitrogen fertilizer should be reduced and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be increased to promote the quality and quantity of flowers.

In short, Phalaenopsis is suitable for spring cultivation. Only if the management links are done well can the flowers of Phalaenopsis be beautiful.
