Maintenance and pruning methods of bean curd

Maintenance and pruning methods of bean curd

With its exquisite plant shape and bright leaves, Chinese evergreen has become a popular indoor foliage plant. The following are the care and pruning methods for Chinese evergreen. By mastering these key points, you can easily cultivate Chinese evergreen with thick leaves and bright colors.

1. Maintenance methods of Chinese evergreen

1. Lighting

Chinese evergreen prefers a semi-shady environment, but it also needs a certain amount of scattered light during its growth period, which helps the leaves remain thick and dark green. In summer, strong direct sunlight should be avoided to prevent the leaves from being burned, and it should be moved to a place with bright but indirect light.

2. Soil

The soil suitable for Peperomia can be prepared by mixing peat soil, sandy soil, perlite and leaf mold in a certain proportion, and adding a small amount of decomposed organic fertilizer as base fertilizer to enhance soil fertility. Lay a layer of coarse gravel on the bottom of the pot to improve drainage. Such soil is loose, fertile and has good drainage.

3. Fertilization

In spring and summer, apply a thin layer of fertilizer , mainly nitrogen fertilizer, about every 35 days, or use compound fertilizer . In autumn, apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers once a month to help the plants accumulate nutrients needed for wintering. Nitrogen fertilizer can be applied in winter, about once every 1.5 months. Fertilizers can be decomposed bean cake water or slow-release granular fertilizers. Apply fertilizer thinly and frequently each time, control the amount and concentration, avoid excessive concentration and prevent fertilizer damage. Fertilization should not be too frequent.

4. Watering

It requires a lot of water during the peak growth period and needs watering once a week. When the soil is dry, water should be replenished in time. In summer, water should be applied about once every 2-3 days due to rapid evaporation of water. As the temperature drops in autumn, the frequency of watering should be reduced accordingly to 1-2 times a week. The plant grows slowly in winter and needs to be watered about every 10-15 days.

5. Pruning

Cut off the branches that are too high directly. The Chinese evergreen has a strong regeneration ability and can quickly grow new branches and leaves after pruning. When the bean sprouts grow to about 10 cm, pinch off the top to promote the growth of side branches and make the plant fuller. The cut branches can be used for cutting propagation or hydroponics. It is easy to keep the Chinese evergreen alive in hydroponics. The best time to prune is in spring or autumn, which is the period when the Chinese evergreen grows more vigorously and is conducive to rapid recovery.

2. Green precautions

1. Fertilize in winter

When fertilizing in winter, the fertilizer concentration must be dilute to avoid causing damage to the Chinese evergreen.

2. Avoid long-term darkness

The plant should not be placed in a dark environment for a long time, otherwise it will cause the branches and leaves to grow too long, the leaves to become thinner and smaller, affecting its ornamental value.

To sum up, Chinese evergreen likes a warm and humid environment, and is resistant to high temperatures but not cold. Special attention should be paid to temperature control in winter to protect the plants from the cold. In summer, you need to avoid direct high temperatures to avoid damaging the plants.
