Can asparagus fern spend the winter outdoors?

Can asparagus fern spend the winter outdoors?

1. When the temperature is above 10℃, asparagus fern can survive the winter outdoors in frost-free areas

If the outdoor temperature is stably above 10℃ and there is no frosty weather throughout the year, then there is no problem for asparagus fern to overwinter outdoors. However, even if you live in Hainan, you may encounter cold currents. So for the sake of the life of asparagus fern, it is best to move it indoors for maintenance in winter, or set up a warm shed outdoors to keep out the cold.

2. When the temperature is below 10℃ and above 5℃, water less and build a warm shed. Asparagus fern can survive the winter outdoors.

When the outdoor temperature drops below 10℃ but has not yet dropped to 5℃, you can overwinter outdoors by watering less, keeping the soil as dry as possible, and setting up a warm shed. It should be noted that less watering does not mean cutting off water. You have to wait until the temperature rises and then pour some water along the edge of the pot to ensure that the asparagus fern will not die of drought.

3. When the temperature is below 5℃, asparagus fern cannot overwinter outdoors and will most likely be frozen to death.

If the outdoor temperature drops below 5℃, don't struggle. Keeping asparagus fern outdoors will definitely freeze it to death. So before the low temperatures in autumn and winter come every year, it is best to move the asparagus fern indoors for maintenance. Ensure that the indoor maintenance temperature is above 10℃ and get more sunlight to help the asparagus fern accumulate nutrients, keep its leaves green, and sprout more new buds.
