As an important agricultural crop, broad beans have different sowing times in different regions. Choosing the right sowing time is the key to ensuring the healthy growth and high yield of broad beans . So, in which month are broad beans generally sown? Let’s take a look below. 1. In which month are broad beans generally sown? Plant in the spring from March to April, or in the fall from October to November. Generally, spring broad beans in northern and western regions are sown from early March to mid-to-late April; autumn broad beans in southern regions are sown in October, i.e., in the Yangtze River Basin in mid-to-late October, in the middle and upper reaches in mid-to-late October, in South China and Zhejiang in mid-to-late October. Yunnan and Guizhou are three-dimensional agriculture, and the sowing period in different regions is from September to October, with the largest sowing scale in early to mid-to-late October. Under normal circumstances, broad beans are suitable for sowing from October 5th to 15th in bean-growing areas at an altitude of 1550-1700m; from October 10th to 20th in bean-growing areas at an altitude of 1750-1900m; and from October 15th to 25th in areas at an altitude of 1950-2200m or above. 2. Methods of planting broad beans 1. Variety selection: In areas with fertile soil and advanced fertilization technology, fertilizer-tolerant and lodging-resistant varieties should be selected to fully tap the potential for increasing yields. In areas with poor soil and poor fertilization capacity, high-yield varieties with wide adaptability and resistance to drought should be used. 2. Seed treatment: Broad bean seeds need to be treated before sowing. The seeds should be dried for 2 to 3 days before sowing to increase the germination rate. Before sowing, dissolve the ammonium molybdate in clean water, mix it with the seeds, then mix it with Charcoal Fumei, and sow it immediately after mixing. 3. Sowing: Moderate sowing is the prerequisite for achieving germination, vigorous seedlings and increased production of broad beans. If sowing is too early and the temperature is high, the growth and development will be too vigorous, the cold resistance will be poor, and it will be easy to suffer from cold damage, and it will also be easy to suffer from ultra-low temperature damage during the flowering and pod stage; if sowing is too late, the germination time will be long and uneven due to the low temperature, the plant's reproductive growth will be poor, the branches will be few, and maturity will be late, so the production in the middle and late stages will be low. According to the climate characteristics of our region, the fields sown around October 10 can generally avoid heavy frost during the flowering and pod-setting stages, so the grains that fall are relatively light. 4. Tillage: Use 200-267cm hanging line to dig furrows and open soil moisture. The furrow width is 27cm and the depth is 27cm. The net soil moisture surface is 173-240cm. The ditches are interconnected, and the ditches in fields with poor drainage should be dug lower, and the soil surface should not be too wide. After digging trenches and breaking up the soil, dig a pond and sow the seeds, then cover the seeds with fine manure or fine soil to ensure germination. 5. Control the planting density: The fields with better fertilizer efficiency should be sown sparsely, and the fields with poor fertilizer efficiency should be planted as sparsely as possible. The relative density of field beans is generally 7000-8000 plants/667㎡, the row spacing is 40cm×40cm, 3500-4000 ponds are sown per 667㎡, and the sowing amount is 8-10kg; the relative density of broad beans sown on hillsides is 9000-10000 plants/667㎡, the row spacing is 40cm×33cm, 4500-5000 plants are sown per 667㎡, and the sowing amount is 10-12.5kg. 6. Fertilization: Under the premise of applying 1000-1500kg of organic fertilizer per 667㎡, apply 30-40kg of general calcium fertilizer and 5-10kg of potassium fertilizer per 667㎡ before sowing. Mix the two fertilizers and apply them in the middle of the pond. Press the bean seeds on both sides of the pond to separate them from the fertilizers. Cover with fine soil or fine manure after sowing. When broad beans have 3 to 4 leaves, use 2 to 3 kg of urea, 10 to 20 kg of general calcium, and 5 to 10 kg of potassium fertilizer per 667 square meters. Mix the three fertilizers and water them at the roots. 3. Precautions for broad bean planting Broad beans prefer warmth and cannot tolerate flooding. They should be planted in high-quality farmland with sufficient light, and water resources that are convenient and quick for irrigation should be selected. Then prepare chemical fertilizers, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers , potash fertilizers, and better fermented organic fertilizers, and apply less base fertilizers, because broad beans can convert molecular nitrogen in nature into nitrogen substances and increase the nitrogen content in the soil. Before sowing, soak the prepared broad bean seeds in warm water until they are swollen, and then sow them. This will help the seeds germinate quickly. Before sowing, inoculate with rhizobia. There are two main methods of inoculation, one is soil layer inoculation and the other is seed inoculation, which can increase the production of broad beans. That’s it |
