Chrysanthemum is one of the top ten famous flowers in China, but in addition to being an ornamental flower, it is also an excellent Chinese herbal medicine, and its planting prospects are very broad. So when is the best time to sow chrysanthemums? Let’s learn more about it below. When is the best time to sow chrysanthemums? The best time to sow chrysanthemums is in spring from March to April, when the climate is warm and humid, which is conducive to the growth of chrysanthemums. In addition, you can also choose to sow chrysanthemums in autumn from September to October. However, the most suitable sowing time should be determined according to the variety of chrysanthemum and local planting climate conditions. What are the methods of planting chrysanthemums? 1. Transplanting Prepare the land and apply fertilizer before transplanting. It is advisable to choose sandy soil with plenty of sunlight, good drainage and fertility, apply 50 kg of compound fertilizer (requires nitrogen: phosphorus: potassium 15:15:15) and 1500-2000 kg of soil and miscellaneous fertilizer per mu, and deep plow and fine harrow. Then from March to May, choose a rainy day, after rain or in the evening of a sunny day to transplant. On the prepared ground, make a hole with a row spacing of 50 cm, a plant spacing of 30 cm, and a depth of 6 cm. Then place the seedlings in the hole, cover with soil, level it, and water it. 4,500 seedlings are used per mu. 2. Cuttings In April-May or June-August, select sturdy, disease-free new branches for cuttings. Take the middle section and cut it into small sections of 10-15 cm. Treat the cuttings with plant hormones, and then insert the cuttings into the seedbed with a row spacing of 20-25 cm and a plant spacing of 6-7 cm. Compact and water. It will take about 20 days for the roots to grow. Apply fertilizer once every month. When the seedlings are 20 cm tall, they can be transplanted. 3. Grafting For chrysanthemum grafting, wild Artemisia annua can be used as the rootstock , and the chrysanthemum to be cultivated can be used as the scion. Between September and October, select large and strong Artemisia annua in the wild and plant them in the greenhouse (the room temperature should be kept at 15℃). Grafting can be carried out from December to February of the following year. When grafting, take a 5-8 cm long chrysanthemum scion, leaving only 2-3 leaves at the tip, and cut an oblique cut on both sides of the base to form a wedge shape. Then cut the rootstock and split it from the center, with the length of the split equal to the length of the scion blade, and embed the scion. In general, chrysanthemums are usually propagated through asexual methods such as cuttings and grafting. If they are propagated by seeds, the offspring will have greater variation. Of course, in addition to distinguishing the methods, the time of sowing is also very important. If sowing too early or too late, it may have an adverse effect on its growth and flowering.
