How to repot agave, when to repot agave

How to repot agave, when to repot agave

1. When to change the pot

Agave should be repotted in spring or autumn. Because the climate and temperature in these two seasons are more suitable for it, it can reduce the damage to it. After repotting, the plant can adapt faster and resume growth faster. If you choose to repot in summer, the temperature will be too high, the wound will be easily infected by bacteria, and recovery will be slow. The temperature is too low in winter, making it difficult to adapt to repotting and easy to get frostbite.

2. How to change the pot

1. Remove from the pot and trim the roots: For plants that are to be repotted, water should be cut off in advance to make it easier to remove from the pot. After removing the plant from the pot, remove the old soil, expose the root system, and then cut off some old, dead, and rotten roots. Then disinfect and dry it in the sun, and plant it in a pot after the wound is dry.

2. Prepare the potting soil: Prepare a flowerpot that is larger than the original pot. The soil also needs to be replaced and reconfigured. To ensure that the soil is loose, transparent and fertile, you can mix peat soil, garden soil and river sand. Be sure to expose it to strong light for disinfection before use to avoid the presence of insect eggs.

3. Planting in pots: After preparing the potting soil, you can plant the plants. First put a small amount of soil in the flowerpot, then put the plant in, let its roots stretch out, and fill the pot with soil carefully. After filling, compact it to prevent it from tilting.

4. Maintenance after planting: After potting, water it thoroughly, then move it to a ventilated and dark place, and let it change the pot for a while. During this period, no fertilizer is needed and the plant should not be exposed to the sun. It will take about a week to recover and can then be managed normally.
