Orchid Planting Techniques

Orchid Planting Techniques

Orchid is a beautiful and elegant flower , loved by everyone for its charming fragrance. It has a very high ornamental value, rich colors and is very beautiful. Below, the editor will introduce the complete orchid planting techniques, let’s take a look.

1. Choose a pot

Orchids have well-developed root systems, so it is suitable to choose a larger flowerpot to give them ample growth space. Before planting orchids, you need to use tiles and gravel to lay the bottom of the pot to help increase its drainage. The height of the filler should not exceed half the depth of the flowerpot to avoid affecting its air permeability.

2. Prepare the soil

The soil for planting orchids should be loose and fertile, with good air permeability and drainage. Sandy soil, garden soil, and humus soil are all fine. Adding perlite can help increase its air permeability.

3. Entering the pelvis

Place loose and fertile soil on top of the filler in the flowerpot, compact it to a thickness of about 2-3cm, and plant the orchid plant in the soil, while ensuring that its branches and leaves have enough space to grow.

4. Planting

Plant the orchid plant vertically in the soil to avoid it tilting. You can gently lift it upwards to relieve the pressure on the roots. Shake the plant and pot to firmly bond them together. Compact the soil around the plant and adjust the height of the plant so that it exceeds the edge of the pot by 2-3 cm.

5. Fertilization

During the orchid growth period , you can choose about 15% of the decomposed thin cake fertilizer water, or 0.1% urea fertilizer water plus 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate fertilizer water, and apply it once every 15-20 days. Before flowering to flowering period, spray the leaves 2-3 times with 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate or wood ash water to promote the development of roots, stems and flowers. Be careful not to apply uncomposted fertilizer to avoid root rot.

6. Watering

Orchids can be watered according to the season, watering every 2-3 days in spring and autumn. Summer is the peak growth season for orchids. You can water them 1-2 times a day and spray a little water on the leaves to increase the air humidity and promote the growth and development of orchids. In addition, orchids also have requirements for water for watering. It is best to choose rainwater. If tap water is used, it needs to be left for 2-3 days before use.

7. Maintenance points

Orchids need 8 hours of light a day. In summer, they should be kept in a cool place away from direct sunlight. The temperature is low in winter, so place it in a location with sufficient light indoors for cultivation. Orchids in the growing period need to use diluted nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer once every 10-15 days.

The above is a complete guide to orchid cultivation techniques. For growing orchids, you can choose a tall orchid pot that is thick at the top and thin at the bottom, with multiple drainage holes or drainage holes on the pot wall. Repot it every one or two years. When repotting, you can cut off the withered, yellowed, and diseased and insect-infested leaves to facilitate ventilation.
