When and how to transplant hawthorn trees

When and how to transplant hawthorn trees

1. When to transplant

Hawthorn trees are highly adaptable and can be transplanted in spring and autumn, without too many requirements on the timing. The best time is in late autumn after the leaves fall, which is around late October to early November. After the leaves fall, it is in a dormant period until the buds sprout. At this time, the above-ground part of the hawthorn tree has become dormant and no longer grows and develops. After the leaves fall, transpiration no longer occurs, so the consumption of water and nutrients can be reduced. Transplanting in a dormant state is not easy to damage the branches and leaves, and the impact on the hawthorn tree itself is relatively small. After transplanting, the underground temperature is still relatively high, which can maintain rooting underneath, and the survival rate is relatively high.

2. How to transplant

1. Dig out the trees: Dig out the hawthorn trees before transplanting. Dig with a small amplitude and do not damage the main roots.

2. Preparation for digging a hole: Choose a good place for transplanting, and dig a hole in advance according to the size of the hawthorn tree. It should be able to accommodate its growth. Put base fertilizer at the bottom of the pit, and then cover it with a layer of soil. Do not let the fertilizer come into direct contact with the roots.

3. Proper pruning: Prune the hawthorn tree, remove old and rotten roots, and cut off diseased, weak and overcrowded branches.

4. Transplanting: Transplant the hawthorn tree in, allow the root system to stretch out, then cover with soil and water.
