How to deal with orchids that don't sprout and look wilted

How to deal with orchids that don't sprout and look wilted

1. Lack of water

If there is not enough water supply during the growth period of orchid, the plant will not germinate. At this time, the orchid needs to be watered in time. Watering is divided into two stages. During the process of nurturing new orchid buds, the principle is to “water when dry and water when wet”. Wait until the soil in the pot is completely dry before watering it thoroughly again. During the rapid growth stage of new shoots, the amount and frequency of watering can be appropriately increased. At the same time, in the evening, use a spray bottle to spray water around the plants to moisturize them.

2. Insufficient light

If there is not enough light, the orchid cannot carry out sufficient photosynthesis, and the plant may not germinate or the germinate may not grow. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that the plant can receive sufficient sunlight. It is best to place it on a balcony with scattered sunlight so that it can receive sunlight for 5 hours a day. When the sunlight is strong in summer, take shade measures in advance.

3. Insufficient nutrients

Failure to apply fertilizer in a timely manner and insufficient nutrient supply to the plant will also affect the germination and flowering of orchids. Generally, when new sprouts just grow out, fertilizer needs to be applied once every half a month. Fertilizers can be orchid-specific liquid fertilizers, organic fertilizers, etc. Wait until July and fertilize once a month. No fertilizer is required during the high temperatures in summer. It is best to apply fertilizer at dusk, and then water the plants once the next morning to avoid fertilizer damage.

4. Untimely pruning

If pruning is not timely, the orchid will receive nutrients unevenly, consume too much nutrients, and fail to germinate. Prune off the yellow, diseased branches and dead leaves to prevent them from consuming too many nutrients. Too many flower buds also need to be removed, and only good buds that are strong and have a high survival rate should be retained.
