What is the latest month to plant broccoli?

Nowadays, many fitness enthusiasts love to eat broccoli , and the nutritional value of broccoli is indeed good, so more and more people are growing it. Broccoli has a strong adaptability to temperature, and the suitable temperature for growth is 15-20℃. The suitable temperature for seed germination is 20-25℃, and varieties at different maturity stages have different temperature requirements for flower ball formation. So what is the latest month to plant broccoli?

What is the latest month to plant broccoli?

Under suitable temperature conditions, sufficient light can promote vigorous growth of broccoli plants and the accumulation of photosynthetic products, thereby improving the yield and quality of flower bulbs. It is not very strict about light requirements, but it likes sufficient light during its growth process.

Broccoli grows well in moist conditions and is not drought tolerant. The relative air humidity suitable for growth is 80-90%, and the soil humidity is 70-80%. The climate is dry and the soil is insufficiently hydrated, so the plants grow slowly and weakly, the flower heads are small and loose, and the quality is poor.

The latest month to plant broccoli is July.

Broccoli can generally be grown in two seasons, in March and July. In areas with suitable climate, broccoli can be grown all year round. The key is to choose varieties that are adapted to the local climate.

Broccoli Planting Tips

1. Variety selection

Broccoli prefers a cool environment, so you should choose varieties that grow vigorously, have dark green buds, few burnt buds, arc-shaped flower heads, few side buds, small buds, large flower heads, are resistant to diseases and pests, are heat and cold resistant, and have strong adaptability. For example, Japan's excellent, dragon green, landscape, etc., and other varieties such as Jade Crown, Oriental Green Treasure, Wanlv, Green Show, etc., or various high-quality varieties can be selected according to market demand, but they must meet the national secondary seed standards.

2. Sowing time

Autumn double cover cultivation: sowing in early July.

Overwintering cultivation in solar greenhouse: sowing in late July to August.

Early spring cultivation in solar greenhouse: sowing from early September to early October.

Early spring cultivation in plastic greenhouses and small arch greenhouses: sowing in November.

Spring mulch cultivation: sowing in January.

3. Seed treatment

Soak the seeds in 33°C warm water for 15 minutes, stirring continuously until the water temperature drops to 20°C, continue soaking for 4 hours, wash and then germinate. Wrap the soaked seeds with wet cotton gauze, germinate at 30℃, rinse with clean water once a day, and sow when 60% of the seeds turn white.

4. Field seedling cultivation

Choose a field with high terrain, good drainage, rich in organic matter, which has not been planted with cruciferous vegetables within two years or has been used as rice before. The seedbed should be facing north and south. Deeply plow the land 15-20 days before sowing, apply 15 kg of triple compound fertilizer plus 5 kg of superphosphate or pour 2500 kg of decomposed human manure per mu 7-10 days before sowing to ensure nutrient supply during the seedling stage. After plowing and raking the land, make a 1.2-meter wide sowing bed with a rice seedling field ratio of 1:20-30.

Before sowing, water the seedbed thoroughly and apply 1000 times of chlorpyrifos and other pesticides to prevent underground pests. When sowing, mix the treated seeds with sand and spread them evenly. After sowing, press down and spread a layer of medicated soil mixed with 0.1% carbendazim and dichlorvos. In summer, shade nets are laid on the seedbeds and small arch sheds are built to provide double shade, moisture retention and cooling; in winter and spring, ground film and shed film are used for double covering to keep warm.

5. Nutrient solution seedling cultivation

Nutrient solution seedling cultivation is a seedling cultivation method with low cost, easy management, high seedling success rate and centralized seedling supply, and is popular among production and processing companies.

Matrix: 25% vermiculite, 65% peat, 10% perlite.

Substrate pile disinfection: After mixing evenly, spray with 50-100 times formalin, cover with plastic film and seal for 4-5 days, remove the film for ventilation, turn over the nutrient soil to volatilize the formaldehyde, and adjust the pH to 6.5-7 after 2 weeks. Use lime to adjust the acidity and use dilute hydrochloric acid to neutralize the alkalinity.

Sowing: Fill the hole tray with substrate, water thoroughly, dig the sowing holes with a hole drill, sow with a seeder , and cover the substrate.

The above is an introduction to the sowing time and method of broccoli. As a vegetable with very good market prospects in recent years, broccoli is planted by more and more users. Mastering the method is the key to achieving high yields.
