Cucumber planting, cultivation and management techniques

Cucumber is a vegetable with high nutritional value and medicinal value. It is especially common in rural areas. Whether in the south or the north, there are many vegetable farmers who grow it. If you want to grow cucumbers with high yields, you need to pay attention to the following points. Let’s learn about cucumber planting, cultivation and management techniques.

1. Site selection and land preparation

Choose land with loose soil, good drainage and rich in organic matter. Before planting, deep plow the land, apply sufficient base fertilizer, and ensure that the soil is fertile and moist.

2. Choose the variety

According to the local climate and market demand, select varieties with strong disease resistance, high yield and good quality, such as Jinyan series, Jinza series, Jinchun series, Zhenghuang No. 2, Luchun 26, etc.

3. Seedling cultivation

Seed soaking and germination: Soak the seeds in 50℃ hot water for 15 minutes, drain the water and germinate at 30℃, and sow after 95% of the seeds germinate.

Sowing: Sow the germinated seeds into nutrient soil, cover with a thin layer of soil, and water thoroughly.

Management during the seedling stage: Maintain appropriate temperature and humidity, strengthen ventilation and dehumidification, and prevent excessive growth and diseases and insect pests.

4. Colonization

Cucumber seedlings should be transplanted when they have 3-6 leaves, with row spacing of 40-80 cm and plant spacing of 30-35 cm. 3000-3500 plants should be planted per acre.

5. Field management

After planting, water thoroughly to keep the soil moist. Increase watering and fertilization during the fruit-setting period, and apply 10-15 kg of water-soluble fertilizer per mu each time. Build frames and tie vines in a timely manner, remove side branches and diseased leaves, and promote healthy growth of plants. Prevent and control diseases and pests such as downy mildew, anthracnose, vine blight, blight, aphids, whiteflies, thrips, red spider mites, and melon borer.

6. Harvest

When cucumbers are ripe, pick them gently and place them aside to avoid damage. Store in a cool and ventilated place to avoid moisture and high temperature that may affect the quality.

The above are the basic steps for cucumber planting . Vegetable farmers should do a good job of field management according to local conditions, which can effectively improve the yield and quality of cucumbers.
