How to plant roses to keep them alive

How to plant roses to keep them alive

1. Cutting time

The time of cutting is related to the branches. If it is a young branch, it is generally better during the growing season, usually April-May or September-October. If it is a hard branch, it can be done in early spring or late autumn.

2. Branch selection

It is better to choose rose branches that have bloomed. Generally, these branches have bud points and are easier to survive after cuttings. However, young shoots have more stringent requirements on the environment, and it is more difficult for them to survive by cuttings. The branches are about 10 cm long and usually have two to three nodes. Keep the two leaves on top and remove all the others. The bottom should be cut at an angle to increase the rooting area, and a little rooting powder should be applied.

3. Pot soil preparation

Suitable potting soil is conducive to the growth of roses. Generally, perlite, vermiculite and wood ash are used in combination, which will not cause water accumulation and also keep a certain humidity in the potting soil. You can also add a certain amount of river sand to the garden soil to increase drainage while also providing certain nutrients.

4. Take cuttings

Use chopsticks to poke a hole in the potting soil, then plant the branches in, compact the soil and water it thoroughly. If the temperature is low, you can put a plastic bag on it, untie it every few days to ventilate it, and observe whether it sprouts.

5. Seedling maintenance

After cuttings, place the flower pot in a place with scattered light, and water it after the soil dries. You can spray water around it appropriately at ordinary times. Once new buds and leaves grow, you can transplant them into new potting soil and maintain them normally.
