Clivia pollination method

Clivia pollination method

1. Pollination time

Although it is a plant that relies on insects for pollination, the possibility of pollination and flowering when grown indoors is very small, and artificial pollination is required. The time for pollination is in spring, which is the flowering season. It is also a good time for artificial pollination and the chance of success is very high.

2. Pollination Method

1. Select parents: The selection of parents is very important. Try to avoid self-pollination. Although seedlings can be grown in this way, their own advantages will gradually degenerate, and new varieties cannot be cultivated. It is best to choose an excellent male parent with good flowering to ensure the quality of the genes of the offspring.

2. Collect pollen: Under normal circumstances, flowers will mature 2-3 days after opening. The pollen collected at this time is most suitable for pollination. Choose a time around 10 am, pick the mature anthers, use a clean brush or small brush to brush them off, and collect them in a container.

3. Pollination: Identify the pistil. The one with a trident in the flower is the one with pollen. Use a brush to apply pollen on it. Remember to do this repeatedly to ensure successful pollination and improve the results of pollination.
