What is the difference between the Fairy Cave Monstera and Monstera? Are they of the same genus?

1. Differences between the two

The Fairy Cave Monstera is also called the Porous Monstera. Compared with the ordinary Monstera, this variety is smaller and its leaves are entire but have holes inside, while the ordinary species often have notches on the leaf edges. In addition, the growth habits of the two are very similar. However, the former is more resistant to high temperatures and shade, but is also very afraid of exposure to the sun. The latter is slightly more cold-resistant, but the difference is not that big.

Second, are they of the same genus?

Xiandong Monstera and Monstera are perennial herbs of the same family and genus. Both belong to the genus Monstera of the Araceae family and are native to Mexico. Due to their unique ornamental value, they have been introduced and cultivated all over the world. Since the former is smaller, it is often decorated on windowsills or tables, while the latter is more suitable to be placed on the floor of the living room.

3. Plant introduction

1. Fairy Cave Monstera: The leaves of this plant are papery, oval in shape, and between 12-15 cm in length. The surface of the leaves is dark green and very smooth, with an oval hole in the middle. It is relatively small overall and has strong shade tolerance. It is usually placed in places without direct sunlight. It likes high temperatures but is not cold-resistant.

2. Monstera: As a climbing shrub, this plant is often larger in size, with oval leaves, thick leathery texture, light green surface, rough back and sharp edges. It is suitable for growing in warm and humid places. It is necessary to provide shade at ordinary times and ensure sufficient water to prevent the plant from drought.
