The secret to raising succulents: they will get extremely fat in 3 weeks. The more you abuse them, the crazier they will grow!

The secret to raising succulents: they will get extremely fat in 3 weeks. The more you abuse them, the crazier they will grow!

Control type 1: Soil control method

If you want to grow succulents well, it is best to know how to prepare the soil. Although ordinary garden soil can be used to grow them, the effect is slow and the plants will either grow too tall or become crippled. Flower lovers who are interested in succulents should learn how to prepare the soil, which will produce quicker results and fewer problems.

1. Pelvic floor pad

The roots of succulents are relatively thin and short. Ambitious flower lovers usually use flower pots that are 3-5 times larger than the succulents to grow them. This will not limit their growth. In order to maintain the air permeability of the bottom of the pot, you can pad it with expanded clay, large stones, or crushed foam.

2. Middle layer soil preparation

After paving the bottom of the pot, the succulents rely on the soil for growth. The most convenient way is to buy ready-made succulent nutrient soil, or you can mix it yourself: coconut coir soil (or leaf mold) + crushed eggshells + coarse sand + slow-release fertilizer.

3. Strengthen measures to prevent rot and insects

When growing flowers, we use everything we can at home. Yaoyao's family used up the bamboo charcoal bags for a month or two on planting flowers. You can also add some to the soil of succulents to prevent root rot and reduce the growth of bacteria and insect eggs.

4. Paving stones are important

Some flower lovers find it troublesome and do not use paving stones for succulents. In fact, this is really a far-fetched approach. Paving stones are not only clean and beautiful, but can also shape succulents and prevent them from growing crookedly or falling over. Most importantly, they can improve water retention and air permeability.

Control type 2: Water control method

Most flower lovers know that succulents should be watered less often. Over time, the succulents will become smaller and smaller, and their leaves will become shriveled and wrinkled, and they will no longer be wanted. The buns that people dry in the sun are very fleshy, and each leaf is as thick as a finger. There are tricks to watering them!

1. Water thoroughly when dry

When growing flowers, don't water them halfway. The same goes for succulents. Wait until the flowerpot is completely dry, then be sure to water it thoroughly until you see water flowing out of the small holes at the bottom of the pot. After watering, keep the surrounding air circulating to prevent water from accumulating in the pot and rotting the roots.

2. Soaking Basin

If your climate is relatively dry and the temperature is above 15 degrees, you can use the immersion pot method to water the succulents. Find a pot or a deep tray, put the succulents in it and fill the tray with water. The water depth should not exceed 1/2 of the succulent pot. Soak for about 20 minutes and take the paving stones out when they are soaked.

The immersion pot method is very effective for growing succulents, but if the soil in your succulent pot is not loose and breathable enough, it may take a long time for the plant to absorb water. It cannot be done on rainy days because the air humidity is high and the succulents do not need watering, let alone immersing the pot.

3. Rain

It is good to grow flowers and succulents when it rains. Yaoyao will move the succulents outside every time it rains. It is enough to soak them for 1-2 hours. However, it is better not to soak them in rainy weather. Collect the rainwater for later use. If it is soaked for too long, the roots will not evaporate and will rot easily.

Control type 3: Light control method

It is said that all things grow with the help of the sun, and the same is true for succulents. If they are exposed to good sunlight, their photosynthesis will be strong, their anthocyanins will be active, their metabolism will be fast, their growth will be fast, and they will also be easy to color.

1. Four seasons of light

The growing season for most succulents is spring and autumn. At this time, you need to increase the light, and it is best to get sunlight every day so that they can grow faster and gain weight faster. It’s cold in winter, so it’s best to get some sun. If the lighting is not good, you can buy a fill light. It's hot in the summer, and keeping safe is important, so you must seek shade.

2. Balanced lighting

Although some succulents also need to bask in the sun, they tend to spread out and their shapes become scattered, which does not look good at all. This is due to uneven lighting. First check to see if there are any obstructions or if the leaves are too dense. When drying in the sun, be sure to move the plants around to ensure even lighting.

3. About fill light

If your home has poor lighting and you want to grow succulents, you can buy fill lights, usually red and blue LED lights, which can be bought on Taobao and are not expensive now. In winter and on rainy days, expose succulents to sunlight for 2-3 hours (every day), and the effect will be obvious.

Control type 4: shape control method

In addition to the most basic soil, watering and light, you also need to be careful when growing succulents so that they can concentrate their strength, grow in groups quickly, become old trees, and overflow the pot.

1. Pull the leaves

The succulents we buy are generally single-headed seedlings that grow very slowly. In addition to the basic techniques mentioned above, picking 1-2 leaves every month can stimulate its growth, either pulling it up or causing new heads to sprout at the location where the leaves were picked, killing two birds with one stone.

Put the picked leaves in the pot and don't worry about it. They will take root and sprout on their own. This way the pot will bloom much faster.

2. Green manure water

Succulent plants are small and also need some fertilizer and water. Yaoyao found that the most convenient way to make fertilizer is grass leaf fertilizer. Put the green grass leaves in a water bottle and ferment them. They will be fermented in about 20 days. After that, it is enough to dilute them with water at 1:200 once a month, and the effect is also very good.

3. Chlormequat

If you are impatient and want to quickly harvest plump succulents, you can try doxycycline, which is a hormone that can be purchased online at a very cheap price. After using it according to the instructions, the succulents will immediately become fat. Many succulent merchants use this. The disadvantage is that the weight will rebound after you stop using it. Please make a rational choice.
