Jade leaves old pile

The Jade Plant belongs to the Portulacaceae family. Its scientific name is Portulaca oleracea. It is a close relative of the wild vegetable Purslane that we see in the fields. They are all in the same family!

Although the branches and leaves of the Jade Plant are so tender that water can be squeezed out, it is very drought-resistant. Long-term water control can increase its water storage capacity and it can quickly turn into an old stump. In winter, water once every 20-30 days and keep in more sun. In spring and autumn, water once every 15 days and keep in diffuse light. In summer, water once every 30 days and keep in a cool place. Spray more water to humidify and reduce temperature.

It is easy to control water for the Jade Plant and let it grow into an old stump, but to keep it beautiful still depends on you to prune it. It is resistant to pruning and can be pruned before and after the growing season in spring and autumn. The longer it is pruned, the more stable it will be.

Clover old pile

Old trees are expensive and difficult to maintain, which is why many flower lovers dare not try. You can first practice with Oxalis (clover), which not only has good shape, but also beautiful flowers.

It is best to choose the most common rose-pink Oxalis, which is commonly found in green belts and has particularly strong vitality. Don't be fooled by its delicate appearance, the roots in the soil are very rough. If you dig it out and plant it halfway in a flowerpot with half of the roots exposed, it will become an old stump.

However, such quick-growing "bonsai" with exposed rhizomes needs a certain degree of protection. Avoid direct sunlight for the first week, and occasionally spray water mist to humidify (water less). After acclimatization, you can put it in a bright place for maintenance.

If you don't use this quick method and sow Oxalis yourself to grow old piles, it may take at least 2-3 years to complete. Although it takes a long time, you can use aluminum or copper wire to fix the shape yourself and shape it according to your preferences.

Sunflower old pile

The popular sunflowers in summer, commonly known as "immortals", are also good materials for practicing making old bonsai. Some grandpas have already done experiments and made sunflowers into flower towers, which are really unique.

Sunflowers have strong vitality, but their growth space is limited. The old stump in the picture above takes 15 years to grow. If you want to quickly grow an old bonsai stump, you can do so through grafting. Just find a larger purslane and it will be done.

Cut off the branches of Purslane, leaving only 5 cm long of each branch, and split them with a knife at the cut to a depth of 2-3 cm.

Cut a few branches of sunflowers in different colors, 5-8 cm in length, cut them diagonally at the bottom and make them thinner. Insert them on the branches of purslane (at the position where they were split in the previous step). Finally, tie it up with a rope.

Sunflower and purslane are also close relatives. They both have strong vitality and are safe to graft. Since the branches are relatively soft, you can use wire to make a support, which not only allows you to practice bonsai skills, but also grafting techniques.

Longevity old pile

Kalanchoe can be easily grown into an old pile. Generally, those over 2 years old have become old piles. In addition to being a bit "ferocious", they still have a bit of artistic flavor...

If you want to quickly grow the Kalanchoe into an old stump, you need to strictly control water to prevent it from growing too tall. Water it about 15 days before flowering, and once every 10-15 days after the flower buds appear. Continue to control water after flowering, and it will become an old stump in half a year.

After Kalanchoe matures, it may not be as fond of blooming. In spring and autumn when the temperature is right, you can pick more branches and leaves for cuttings, so that you can still have big flower balls to see in winter. As for old stumps, try to change the soil once a year and add some phosphorus fertilizer before flowering, and there will be no problem with flowering.

Succulent

Old piles of succulent plants are relatively common. As long as they are not killed, they can basically grow into old piles. But it’s a question of beauty and ugliness. Old piles have different postures. Some are worthless, while some can be sold at sky-high prices. There is a huge gap.

In addition to "relying on luck" to grow old succulent plants, you also need to understand human intervention. If your succulent plants are growing too tall, you can remove the sparse leaves on the branches, and then strengthen water control to make the main stem lignified, which can accelerate the aging process.

If your succulent plants continue to grow too tall and become too thin, you can simply "cut off" their heads. As long as the stem is alive, it will re-emerge from the cut, perhaps with multiple heads. This way, maintaining the proper height will naturally give the plant a good shape.

After plucking off the leaves and "cutting off the head", no one knows where new flower buds will sprout from. Sometimes, if there are too many sprouts, uneven nutrition will cause the buds to die. If you have buds that you like, you can pick off the ones you don't like, and the ones that are left will grow well.
