How to care for wine bottle orchid in winter

How to care for wine bottle orchid in winter

1. Ensure the temperature

If you want the bottle orchid to safely survive the winter, the temperature should be kept above 10°C. If the indoor temperature is lower, the plant will be frozen and rot. After winter comes, it needs to be moved indoors as soon as possible, and the temperature must not be too low.

2. Keep warm

If the temperature of the breeding environment does not meet the standard, it is recommended to cover it with plastic wrap or a plastic bag, which can provide a good warming effect. However, attention should be paid to ventilation. It is best to uncover the leaves every two days to allow the plants to breathe fresh air.

3. Proper water control

When the bottle orchid is growing, it will temporarily enter a dormant state. At this time, you need to reduce the amount of water, but the soil should not be allowed to become too dry. When watering, you should pay attention to the dryness of the soil and water it in time after it becomes dry. In addition, the water temperature should be as high as possible. Do not use too cold water or hot water, as this may damage the plant's roots.

4. Slight pruning

Proper pruning is needed in winter, mainly to cut off weak, dry, and densely growing branches, otherwise it will increase nutrient loss in the soil and the plant will grow weaker in the spring of the following year. Especially when pruning diseased branches, you should prune happily, otherwise more branches will be infected.
