How to prune passion fruit for high yield (reasons for only blooming but not bearing fruit)

How to prune passion fruit for high yield (reasons for only blooming but not bearing fruit)

1. Pruning during the fruiting period

When the fruits are ripe, the fruit-bearing branches should be pruned to ensure that there are five or six fruits on each branch. The top buds should be removed to save nutrients and ensure that all nutrients are provided to the fruits. This will increase the yield of first-grade fruits.

2. Pruning after harvest

After harvesting the fruits, the fruit branches should be cut off from the base, leaving only two or three nodes, so that new fruiting branches can sprout. Leave three or four nodes on the side vines to ensure that the side vines can grow smoothly later. In addition, diseased and weak branches, broken branches and branches that grow too densely should be cut off at this time. If there are branches that are almost reaching the ground, they should also be cut short, 20-30 cm from the ground, which will be more conducive to ventilation.

3. Winter pruning

Winter is when all the fruits have been harvested, and it is necessary to heavily prune at this time to save a lot of nutrients, to ensure that the multi-level branches grow fully and to promote the increase in the number of flower buds and fruits in the later period. In addition, at the end of March in spring, overly long branches and diseased and insect-infested branches should be cut off to prepare for increased yields.

4. Reasons for flowering but no fruiting

If the weather is hot after flowering and before fruiting, and watering is not timely, the flower buds will lack water and cannot grow, and will turn yellow and fall off later. It may also be because the flower buds encounter a low temperature environment during their growth period and are unable to expand and grow, and the concentration of fertilizer applied at this time is too high, and its resistance is not strong, which will cause this phenomenon.
