What should I do if the new branches of roses grow thin and long?

Rose is one of the easier flowers to grow. With normal maintenance, it can grow lush and leafy. Roses that grow thin and long obviously do not meet the standard of a healthy rose. A healthy rose should have thick branches. There are generally several reasons for the thin and long branches of roses.

First, the seedlings grow too fast

The branches are thin and long. This situation often occurs in the rose seedling stage. Although the rose is in the seedling stage at this time, it grows very rapidly and branches out very quickly. In a short period of time, the branches will become very tall.

If we don't break this apical dominance in time, the plant will grow taller and taller. But at the same time, since most of the nutrients are supplied to the height growth, the plant cannot grow strong and will not bloom too much.

This kind of tall and thin seedling has poor resistance and poor root system. In addition, it is still in the seedling stage, so once there is a little problem, such as root rot or disease, the chance of death will be very high.

Second, insufficient light

Most plants grow under low light, but roses have higher requirements for light. It is difficult for roses to grow well under insufficient light conditions. Insufficient light will cause the branches to grow too long, that is, the branches will be thin and long. This is easy to understand.

Light is a necessary condition for plant growth. What will happen without light? Plants will not sit there and wait for death. They will grow their necks to get sunlight, which makes them thin and long.

Solution

The solution to insufficient light is simple, just put it in a well-lit place. A place that can get sunlight and good ventilation is very suitable for the growth of roses.

South balconies, terraces, and rooftops are better places. Indoors cannot provide sufficient lighting, so it is not recommended to grow roses.

Third, diseased seedlings shed leaves

When the rose is seriously infected with the disease, the lesions will spread to all the leaves of the whole plant. After that, the leaves of the rose will fall off in large numbers. After the leaves fall off, photosynthesis will decrease and the apical dominance of the rose plant will increase.

The buds and new leaves that sprout again will be concentrated at the top of the branches. If we do not deal with them in time, the focus of the plant's growth will be concentrated on the top of the branches from then on.

The sparse leaves at the top and the too long nutrient supply route will cause the rose plant to become a tall seedling from now on.

Moreover, the branches that grow from the top will be weak, thin and long, which will not only affect the entire growth process of the rose, but also make flowering simply unimaginable.

Fourth, long-term non-pruning

The most important task in growing roses is pruning. Only after pruning can the roses sprout more branches, and the original branches will gradually become thicker.

For roses that have been pruned for a long time, nutrients will only be supplied to the growth of the top branches. The lower branches have no nutrients and naturally do not grow much.

How to prune roses daily

Rose pruning is usually done after flowering, removing withered flowers, weak branches, branches that affect ventilation and light transmission, and shortening flowering branches.
