How to propagate frangipani by cuttings

How to propagate frangipani by cuttings

Plumeria can be propagated by cuttings, which can be done when the ambient temperature is 20-30 degrees. Select 1-2 year old strong branches with a length of 20-30 cm, and then place them in a cool and ventilated place for 2 days. Then insert them into the culture soil and spray them with water. Spray water once every 1 day to keep the soil moist. It will take root in 30 days.

Plumeria cutting time

Plumeria likes to grow in a warm and humid environment, and can be cut all year round , as long as the ambient temperature is 20-30 degrees. It is mostly done in spring , when the temperature is warmer, suitable for root germination, and the survival rate of planting will be higher.

How to take cuttings of plumeria

1. Choose branches

Select a strong branch, the length depends on the situation . If it is a potted plant, it can be shorter by 30~40 cm and 2~3 cm thick. Cut off the leaves that will be inserted into the soil. If there are flowers on the branch, you can keep it, which will not affect the cutting effect.

2. Pruning branches

Try not to use the kitchen knife at home, as it will leave too many wounds and affect the cuttings. Find a sharper knife and cut it diagonally .

3. Cuttings

Insert the trimmed branches directly into the soil . If the branches you choose are too long, you can use other plants to support them. It is a good idea to lean them against the back of the bougainvillea.

Tips for cutting plumeria

After the frangipani is cut, place it in a semi-shaded place to increase the air humidity . It will take about half a month to take root.

After the frangipani is cut, it needs to be watered in time to prevent drying, but it should not be watered too much, otherwise the roots will easily rot, especially in the rainy season, drainage measures need to be taken. Apply topdressing 1-2 times a month , and apply fertilizers containing phosphorus and potassium 1-2 times before flowering. If the fertilizer is insufficient, there will be few or no flowers.
