How to change the soil for azalea and the precautions

Azalea is also called mountain pomegranate. Its flowers are lush and colorful. Azalea needs to be repotted and soil changed after two or three years of cultivation, otherwise the roots will cover the entire pot and there will be no space for growth, which will inevitably affect the normal growth of the azalea.

When changing the soil for azaleas, you need to pay attention to the time and avoid changing the soil blindly. Generally, we will start changing the soil in early spring or late autumn. At this time, the plants are growing vigorously, the climate is suitable, and it is suitable for the recovery of the root system. The success rate of repotting is relatively high.

How to change the soil for azalea

1. Treat the roots

When changing the soil for azalea, we must carefully dig out the plant so as not to damage the roots. After taking it out, remove the old soil from the roots, rinse it with water, cut off some black and rotten roots, and retain some healthy roots. This will allow it to quickly adapt to the newly prepared potting soil.

2. Prepare the soil

The size of the flowerpot should match the size of the azalea so that the roots can fully stretch. Tiles can be placed under the bottom of the flowerpot to control moisture and prevent pests from entering the plant. The soil should be loose and fertile. Mix leaf mold, garden soil and coarse sand in a ratio of 3:3:1, which is conducive to the growth of azalea.

3. Start changing pots

After the soil is prepared, we can plant the azalea in a new pot. Pay attention to place it in the middle of the pot, upright and not tilted, slowly add soil into it, and press it firmly.

Precautions for changing soil for azalea

After changing the soil of azalea, you can water it thoroughly to keep the substrate moist, and then place it in a well-ventilated and shaded place for two weeks. After the soil is dry, water it to keep the soil moist. At the same time, in order to reduce the evaporation of moisture on the leaves, you can spray water on the leaves frequently. After the seedlings are ready, they can be maintained normally.
