How to propagate konjac rhizomes, corm cuttings, and sowing propagation methods

Konjac propagation method

The propagation methods of konjac include rhizome propagation, bulb cutting propagation, and sowing propagation. It is usually planted in spring and autumn. As long as the ambient temperature is stable between 15-20 degrees, it can be propagated and the survival rate is relatively high.

Common propagation methods of konjac

1. Konjac rhizome propagation

There are more than 10 root-like stems growing on the bulb of konjac, which are rhizomes, a good source of seeds for breeding taro. They can be cut into sections, retaining 2-3 nodes in each section, and ensuring that there are 1-2 live buds. Apply some wood ash on the wound, place it in the sun for 1 to 2 days, and then sow in nests.

2. Propagation by cutting konjac corms

Large konjac, which usually weighs more than 2 kilograms, can be propagated by cutting. There are multiple side buds around the top bud of konjac. All the side buds can be cut off to force them to become seedlings. Cutting should be done on a sunny day. After cutting, you need to apply wood ash on the wound, put it in the sun, and plant it after the wound heals.

3. Konjac sowing and propagation

Konjac seeds can be harvested in time after they are mature. The seeds inside can be taken out, washed, dried, and stored in a cool and ventilated environment. Then, when the temperature is suitable in the spring of the following year, the dormancy period of the konjac seeds can be broken, and they can be soaked in a gibberellin solution for about 5 minutes before being planted.

When sowing, pay attention to the row spacing and spacing. The row spacing can generally be controlled at about 8cm. The sowing method can be broadcast sowing or row sowing. When planting, we can even mix the seeds with dry sand so that the seeds can germinate better.
