Plum tree pruning time

Plum trees are generally pruned in June and July in summer and in December in winter. The climate and temperature in these two time periods are more suitable for pruning. After pruning, the trees can quickly resume growth and grow normally.

Regular pruning of plum trees is beneficial to their growth and development, can avoid excessive nutrient loss, allow them to grow normally, and reduce the occurrence of diseases and pests. After pruning, they can have a good ventilation environment for growth and development.

How to prune a plum tree

1. Summer pruning: When pruning plum trees in summer, it is usually done in June and July, which is the peak growth period. When pruning in summer, some weak branches and diseased branches need to be pruned off to avoid excessive loss of nutrients, and the withered flowers also need to be pruned off.

2. Disinfection and sterilization: The temperature in summer is relatively high, which is a high incidence season of diseases and insect pests. Therefore, after pruning the plum trees, you need to spray some diluted potassium permanganate solution on the plants for disinfection and sterilization.

3. Winter pruning: Pruning plum trees in winter is best done from December to January of the following year. Use scissors that have been sterilized at high temperatures to thin out the branches and leaves that grow too densely to make the nutrients of the plum trees more concentrated.

4. Maintenance and management: When caring for plum trees in winter, organic fertilizer needs to be applied to the soil once before winter to increase the plant's resistance to cold. When the temperature is below 5 degrees, cotton cloth should be used to wrap the trunk to keep it warm.
