Introduction to Black Wolfberry

Black wolfberry is a plant of the Solanaceae family, Lycium genus, which can grow up to 150 cm in height, has many branches, irregular vertical stripes, and the flowers grow on short branches. The Mongolian name for black wolfberry is "Qionoying-Harmag" and the Tibetan medicine name is "Pangma". Common varieties of wolfberry include Ningxia wolfberry, Zhongning wolfberry, yellow fruit wolfberry, red branch wolfberry, calyx wolfberry, black fruit wolfberry, and Xinjiang wolfberry.

Black wolfberry has a strong adaptability to the environment and grows in wild mountains, riverbeds and beaches with vigorous growth. However, due to the excessive exploitation of nature by humans, the living space of black wolfberry has become smaller and smaller. Because of its rarity, it has become a high-end nourishing product.

Black wolfberry planting climate and temperature

Black wolfberry has vigorous growth, strong adaptability, and is resistant to both high and low temperatures. It can withstand temperatures as high as 38.5 degrees Celsius and will not suffer frost damage at minus 25.6 degrees Celsius. It is very drought-resistant and can still grow in deserts. It is a light-loving tree species. It grows healthily under sufficient light, but grows weakly under the shade, with very few flowers and fruits.

Suitable areas for growing black wolfberry

Black wolfberry is mainly distributed in desert areas such as Qinghai, Tibet, Gansu, Xinjiang, and Inner Mongolia. It was originally mainly distributed in the Gobi deserts in Xiangride, Nomhong, Delingha, and Golmud in Dulan County around Qinghai.

Black wolfberry planting time

Black wolfberry is suitable for sowing in spring, specifically from late March to mid-April. Mix the seeds with some fine sand, then sow them evenly into the soil, cover them with fine sand, water them thoroughly, keep the soil moist, irrigate with small amounts of water every 1-2 days, provide a temperature of 17-21 degrees Celsius, and the seeds will emerge in 5-7 days.

Black wolfberry planting benefits

The annual income per mu varies depending on the black wolfberry planting site, with low yields at 3,000 yuan and high yields at 8,000 yuan. The efficiency of black wolfberry is more than 10 times higher than that of red wolfberry. During the high-yield period, each black wolfberry plant can produce about 2 kilograms of fresh fruit and about 0.5 kilograms of dried fruit per year.
