Can orchids be planted in the ground?

Orchids can be planted in the ground. Orchids can be grown indoors or outdoors. If the indoor environment can meet the growth conditions of orchids, then potted orchids are better. If there is no space indoors or it does not meet the growth conditions of orchids, then it is best to grow them outdoors.

Wintering orchids in the ground

Ground-planted orchids are perennial plants and can survive the winter. Different orchid varieties can tolerate different temperatures. Except for Cymbidium and Jianlan, other orchids have strong cold resistance.

Planting orchids in the ground for summer

Orchids can be planted in the yard. When caring for orchids in summer, there must be enough water. It is recommended to do so in the morning and evening. After the temperature rises, ventilation should be strengthened and water should be sprayed as much as possible to ensure the coolness of the breeding environment. It cannot be exposed to the sun and needs to be shaded or placed in a cool place during the day.

Orchid planting method

1. Use soil

When planting orchids in the ground, you can lay a layer of expanded clay, coal slag, etc. underneath, and then fill it with leaf mold or other mixed planting materials with good water permeability and air permeability, and then plant the orchids. Do not plant too deep, let the roots stretch out naturally.

2. Pest and disease control

When planting orchids in the ground, it is necessary to do a good job in preventing and controlling diseases and pests, and insecticides and fungicides are often used for prevention. The planting materials used during planting should also be strictly sterilized and disinfected.

3. Lighting

When planting orchids in the ground, it is best to plant them in a semi-shaded location, or where they can only receive weak light in the morning and afternoon, with shade at noon.

Precautions for planting orchids in the ground

1. Watering: water less in the rainy season and more in the dry season. Just like potted plants, do not waterlogge, but do not let the plants dry out either.
2. Apply fertilizer reasonably, with organic fertilizer as the main fertilizer. During the period of flower bud differentiation and flower bud growth, it can be used in combination with quick-acting inorganic phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.
3. After the flower buds emerge from the soil, if there are too many of them, they will consume excessive nutrients from the mother plant, hindering the formation and vigorous growth of leaf buds. The excess and thin flower buds should be removed as soon as possible, leaving only one flower bud for each orchid seedling.
4. The space for planting orchids must be open, the terrain should be slightly higher and not too low, and always pay attention to ventilation.
