Dendrobium growth conditions and characteristics

Dendrobium growth conditions

Dendrobium prefers a warm, humid, semi-shaded and semi-sunny growing environment, requires an annual rainfall of more than 1,000 mm, and does not have very high requirements for soil and fertilizer. The main production areas are Hubei, Anhui, Guizhou, Zhejiang and other places.

The most suitable growth temperature for Dendrobium is 20-30℃. During maintenance, the surrounding temperature can be controlled at around 20℃. The plant is not cold-resistant, so the temperature should be above 0℃ during winter maintenance.

Dendrobium growth period and process

Dendrobium mainly grows in deep mountains and old forests in the subtropical zone. The average temperature in winter is above 8°C. The plant grows fast, with a growth cycle of about 16-24 months. It can be partially harvested after two years.

Dendrobium will generally germinate in the second year after planting, and its growth will go through several stages including seed germination, new bud tillering, seedling growth, flowering and budding.

Dendrobium planting process and methods

1. Seed treatment: Before planting, place the Dendrobium seeds in diffused light and dry them for 3 hours, then soak them in water for 12 hours, so that the seeds will be easier to germinate.

2. Choose soil: When planting Dendrobium, you need to use humus soil with good drainage, and then place some pebbles on the surface of the potting soil, so as to achieve the effect of moisturizing.

3. Sowing: Sow the seeds in 2 cm deep soil, then cover with a thin layer of soil, water thoroughly, and they will germinate in about 7 days.
