How to prepare azalea soil

How to prepare azalea soil

Azalea soil requirements

Azaleas like acidic soil. Generally, leaf mold is better for planting azaleas. It can be dug from under pine trees in the forest or taken from gardens with many pine and cypress trees. Of course, not only this kind of soil can be used, but also the nutrient soil and pond soil from flower shops.

How to prepare azalea soil

1. Cultivation soil: Add humus or peat soil to the original soil, preferably some sand. When repotting, use leaf humus instead of old soil.

2. Soybean dregs: Soak the soybeans in water for 8 hours and then boil them for half an hour. Take them out and crush them into dregs. Then bury them in the small holes in the soil at the edge of the flowerpot and water them for maintenance.

3. Cow dung: Dry the cow dung in the sun and break it into slag. When nutrients are needed, you can spread it on the surface of the basin and let it slowly seep into the soil.

Rhododendron soil maintenance

1. The main pests of azalea are red spider mites, aphids, etc. You can spray cypermethrin and wait for three days until the effect is good before spraying again. In addition, the main disease of azalea is black spot disease, which is caused by stuffy environment and lack of light. You can put it in a place with good air circulation and spray Bordeaux mixture and carbendazim.

2. The time for repotting azaleas and changing the soil should generally be done in spring and autumn. Of course, replacing a small pot with a large one is not restricted by seasons. Acidic soil should be used, preferably rotten plant soil.

3. Azaleas cannot be raised in wood ash because wood ash contains potassium carbonate, which is a strong base and weak acid salt. Azaleas like acidic soil rich in humus and it is difficult for them to survive in soil with high alkalinity.

4. Eggshells can be added to azalea soil. Putting some empty eggshells in flowerpots is beneficial to the growth of flowers and trees. Some egg white will remain in the eggshell and will be slowly decomposed by microorganisms into fertilizer that can be absorbed by flowers, plants and trees.
