What is the best fertilizer for Amaryllis

Fertilization time for Amaryllis

Fertilizer is needed during the growth period of Amaryllis, before germination in March each year, during the growing period from April to June, and during the bulb growing period from September to October.

When the leaves of Amaryllis reach 5 cm in length, start applying top dressing. Generally, apply liquid fertilizer once every 15 days. After flowering, apply liquid fertilizer once every 20 days or so.

What fertilizer to use for Amaryllis

When planting Amaryllis, you can apply base fertilizer to ensure that it has sufficient nutrients during its growth period. Apply fertilizers containing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium during the growth period, but do not use fertilizers with high nitrogen content to prevent the leaves from growing too long and the bulbs from becoming smaller and smaller, and the Amaryllis will not produce small ones.

Fertilization method of Amaryllis

1. Before potting and planting, you need to apply base fertilizer, which can make the soil more nutritious and is very helpful for the root development of Amaryllis after planting. Especially for soil that is not fertile enough, the role of base fertilizer is even more important.

2. The early germination period is the critical period for Amaryllis to take root and grow new leaves. Fertilizer can be applied once after the seedling period. A thin cake fertilizer water is the most suitable fertilizer.

3. The growing period is the main period for the differentiation of amaryllis flower buds, and the number of flower buds determines the number of flower buds. Therefore, nitrogen fertilizer should be applied once a month during this stage, and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be appropriately supplemented to ensure that the leaves are dark green and the plants are strong.

4. Before the flowering period, that is, before summer, you should apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers and reduce the amount of nitrogen fertilizers. This can promote the formation of flower buds, which is very beneficial for flowering and can ensure that the flowers are more colorful after flowering.

5. After the flowers wither, you need to stop fertilizing during the flowering period. After the flowers wither, you can continue to fertilize. The fertilizer is mainly phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, which can improve the cold resistance of amaryllis and help it survive the winter smoothly. Fertilization needs to be stopped after the end of autumn.

Notes on fertilizing Amaryllis

Amaryllis needs to be fertilized in moderation to avoid burning the roots. Watering is required in time after fertilizing. Do not use raw fertilizer or concentrated fertilizer. Fertilizer should not be applied to the same place every year to avoid affecting the growth of the root system.
