How to divide Dieffenbachia

Dieffenbachia division time

The genus Dieffenbachia is a plant of the Liliaceae family. It is a perennial herb. The varieties of Dieffenbachia include variegated Dieffenbachia, Tiger Eye Dieffenbachia, Guangdong Dieffenbachia, Purple-backed Dieffenbachia and Zebra Leaf Dieffenbachia. Dieffenbachia division propagation can be carried out in spring and autumn.

Dieffenbachia division propagation method

Remove the evergreen from the pot, cut off the rhizome at the base of the stem, and apply wood ash to the cut to disinfect it and prevent rot. Or place it in a ventilated place and wait until the cut is dry before planting. Do not water it too much after planting. You can also propagate it by natural bulb division. Dig out the bulbs, plant them according to size, and maintain them for several years. Divide them when the bulbs are crowded.

Steps for dividing Dieffenbachia

Dieffenbachia can be divided when repotting. When dividing, pull the entire plant out of the pot, use a sharp blade to cut off the new shoots at the roots, including some lateral roots, apply some wood ash on the wound, with or without soil, and then plant it in a new pot. The soil in the new pot should be breathable, well-drained, and fertile.

The evergreen with larger roots can be divided into several parts and planted separately, and several plants can be propagated at a time. After planting, place them in a cool location and water them thoroughly every 1-2 days, waiting for them to recover and take root.

The most suitable temperature for the growth of evergreen is 20℃-30℃. If the temperature is too high in summer, the plant will wilt, and shade measures need to be taken. Water should be sprayed around the plant to keep it moist. In winter, the temperature is low and the growth is slow. If it is below 7 degrees, it will stop growing. Therefore, it is best to move it to a warm indoor room for maintenance in winter.
