When is the best season to plant sword beans?

Sword bean planting season and time

Sword bean planting is seasonal. It can be planted in February-March in spring, May-July in summer, or around August in autumn. The most suitable temperature for seed germination is 25-30℃.

There are two main varieties of the sword bean plant, namely climbing sword bean and dwarf sword bean. This plant has a very long history of cultivation in my country, but the planting time difference between different sword bean varieties is not very large.

Sword bean harvest season

The harvest time of sword beans varies depending on the planting time. The plants mature between June and October and the growth cycle is not long. The average yield per mu is around 1,000 to 1,500 kilograms.

Sword bean planting steps and methods

1. Land preparation and fertilization

Before sowing, ridges and furrows should be made, with each ridge about 30 cm wide. A certain amount of base fertilizer should be applied, usually livestock manure.

2. Sowing and seedling raising

The seed coat of sword bean is very hard. Before sowing, it must be soaked in water to germinate, and then sown in holes. After sowing, cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil and then water them thoroughly.

3. Scaffolding

The trellis needs to be built when the sword bean seedlings grow to about 40 cm. The purpose is to allow them to have more sufficient growth space, which will facilitate subsequent management.
