Hydrangea growth environment conditions and characteristics

Hydrangea growth environment conditions and requirements

Hydrangeas grow beside valley streams or in sparse woods on mountain tops, at an altitude of 380-1700 meters. Hydrangeas prefer warm, humid and semi-shady environments. The suitable temperature for hydrangea growth is 18-28℃, and the winter temperature should not be lower than 5℃.

Hydrangea growing temperature

Hydrangeas have strong adaptability to temperature, but the most suitable temperature is between 18 and 28 degrees, with 20 degrees being the most suitable. They can tolerate a minimum temperature of 5 degrees. If it continues to drop, there is a possibility of death.

Hydrangea growth humidity

The soil in the hydrangea pot should be kept moist, but not watered too much. Especially in the rainy season, attention should be paid to drainage to prevent root rot caused by waterlogging. During the spring growing season, the soil in the hydrangea pot should be kept moist and watered sufficiently. In the summer, water it once a week and control the humidity at around 40%.

Hydrangea growing soil

The soil for growing hydrangeas can be prepared by mixing fertile garden soil, peat soil and river sand in appropriate proportions. Imported peat soil is preferred, but it is relatively expensive.

Hydrangea growth cycle and process

Hydrangea blooms in summer, from June to August. The growth cycle of hydrangea is very long, which is three months, and it may be even longer. It takes 6-8 weeks for hydrangea flower bud differentiation under 5-7℃ conditions. 20℃ temperature can promote flowering. Maintaining 16℃ after flowering can prolong the flowering period.
