What are the conditions for growing water lilies?

1. Breeding

1. Flower pots: Try to choose flower pots that open outwards. The leaves in flower pots that open outwards will grow better than those in flower pots that open inwards. The wider the mouth of the pot, the bigger the flowers will grow. The deeper the flower pot, the longer the time between flowering.

2. Loam: It prefers clay

3. Light: It prefers sunlight and well-ventilated environment, so the water lily that blooms in the morning will close at night and open again the next morning.

4. Temperature: During the growth period, it can be placed in a 25℃-30℃ incubator to germinate.

5. Fertilization: Every one and a half to two and a half months, apply root fertilizer or long-acting fertilizer 3-5 cm away from the bulb. No fertilizer is allowed in October. As autumn approaches, the water lily gradually enters a dormant state. Adding fertilizer at this time will cause root rot.

6. Flowering season: Sprouting and growing leaves in March and April, blooming in succession from May to August. Each flower blooms for 2-5 days, opening during the day and closing at night, and bearing fruit after flowering. The stems and leaves wither in October and November. It sprouts again in the spring of the following year. In the Yangtze River Basin, it germinates from late March to early April, buds in late April or early May, blooms from June to August, has yellow leaves from October to November, and enters a dormant period after November.

2. Precautions

After planting, place the pot into the tank and the water should be 1 meter deep enough to cover the seedlings. When the temperature rises above 15℃ in April, you can move it to the yard. As new leaves grow, you can change the pot 2-3 times, and the final pot diameter should not be less than 35 cm.
