How to propagate African jasmine

How to propagate African jasmine

1. Cutting

1. Time: The best time for cutting propagation is between April and October, among which the survival rate is highest from June to August.

2. Branches: Select semi-lignified branches of the current year, each branch has four to five leaves, cut off small sections about ten to fifteen centimeters long, then remove the lower three to four leaves, leaving only one or two leaves on the upper part.

3. Matrix: The matrix can be plain peat, or it can be materials such as river sand and vermiculite.

4. Insertion: When cutting, find a wooden stick to make a hole in the substrate first, then insert the pruned branches into the substrate and press it down with your fingers.

5. Spray water: After cutting, use a sprayer to spray water, spray more to make the cutting medium completely wet. Then cover the cuttings with plastic film and place them in a cool and ventilated environment. Generally, it will take about 10 to 15 days for the seeds to take root, and then you can transplant them after they sprout.

2. Division

Sometimes suckers will sprout from the base of African jasmine. When repotting, cut the suckers off from the mother plant and replant it.

3. Layering

Use a longer outer branch to scrape off about one centimeter of the skin. Use a flower pot, cut it vertically, tie it at the wound, fill the pot with soil, and carry out normal management. After the growing season is over, you can check whether the layered part has grown roots. After it has grown roots, cut it off from the mother plant and replant it.
