What soil should be used for Areca palm

1. Soil selection

Acidic plants need acidic soil to grow well, so when growing Areca palm, you must choose acidic soil. If the soil for breeding is alkaline, you can choose to add a little vinegar to the soil, or you can pour fermented rice water into the soil. Both of these things can change the pH value of the soil and turn alkaline soil into acidic soil. If you don't know how to distinguish the soil quality, you can use pH test paper to test the pH value of the soil. If the index is greater than or equal to seven, it is alkaline soil, and if it is less than seven, it is acidic soil. It is also necessary to conduct more frequent measurements because soil quality will change with time and environment. If it becomes alkaline soil, measures must be taken.

2. Soil Preparation

In addition to the pH value, the air permeability and drainage of the soil must also be considered. The roots of the Areca palm are sensitive and require soil with good air permeability and drainage properties to grow. When preparing the breeding soil, you can use river sand, leaf mold and peat soil in a ratio of 1:1:1, because river sand has good air permeability, leaf mold has sufficient nutrients, and peat soil has good drainage.

3. Increase nutrients

During the growth period of Areca palm, it has a relatively large demand for nutrients. It is difficult to meet its needs relying solely on the nutrients in the soil, so it is necessary to increase nutrients through fertilization. When applying fertilizer, you can choose animal manure that is less irritating and rich in nutrients, and apply it about twice a month. You can also choose to go to a fertilizer store and let professionals configure fertilizers according to the specific conditions of the soil.
