I believe that many pig farmers have encountered the phenomenon of dead pigs during the pig farming process. In fact, dead pigs are slow-growing pigs that only eat but do not grow, or their growth is stagnant and they are thin for a long time. Let’s talk about the causes and prevention methods of dead pigs. 1. Causes of Zombie Pigs According to the cause of its onset, it can be roughly divided into congenital and acquired: 1. Congenital The main reasons are inbreeding, premature mating or old and weak breeding pigs, which lead to congenital deficiencies such as small size and slow development of piglets, which are very likely to cause fetal rigidity. 2. Acquired (1) The sow does not produce enough milk after giving birth, which results in the piglets not getting enough milk, leading to growth stunting and causing milk stiffness. (2) Some piglets suffer from diseases repeatedly, or parasitic diseases lead to a large consumption of nutrients, affecting their eating, and malnutrition causes sickness and stiffness. (3) Improper feeding causes piglets to compete for food with large and small pigs, resulting in the piglets not getting enough food and becoming stiff due to overeating. Among them, stiff due to illness and stiff due to overeating are the main causes of stiff pigs. 2. Symptoms of stiff pigs 1. Zombie pigs mainly occur in piglets from birth to about 20kg. The specific symptoms are lack of energy, fluffy and messy fur, pale mucous membranes, unsteady gait, often lying on the ground, with big heads, round bellies, pointed buttocks, and weak and thin physique. 2. The most obvious characteristic is that they only eat but do not grow, and their growth is slow or stagnant. According to statistics, the daily weight gain of dead pigs does not exceed 50 grams, and some piglets still weigh around 20kg after being raised for half a year, which brings serious economic impact to farmers. 3. Prevention and treatment methods of piglets 1. Congenital To prevent inbreeding, do not breed the pigs too early. Wait until the breeding pigs reach the appropriate breeding period to improve the quality of the offspring and reduce the phenomenon of dead pigs. Old and weak breeding pigs should be eliminated in time and replaced with new and vigorous breeding pigs. 2. Acquired (1) Milk stiffness: It is necessary to strengthen feeding management during the gestation and lactation period of sows to ensure the supply of nutrients such as protein, vitamins and minerals , so that there is sufficient nutrition for milk production and the piglets can grow and develop well during breastfeeding. (2) Sickness and stiffness: Pay attention to the hygiene of the breeding environment, clean and disinfect it in time to avoid infection by pathogens. Once the disease is discovered, it must be dealt with in a timely manner to prevent the disease from continuing to harm the piglets. (3) Food stagnation: Piglets should be raised in appropriate groups. After they are weaned and can eat freely, they should be raised separately from other large pigs to avoid food snatching and the piglets being unable to get food. That’s it |
