There are 9 minefields for succulents in summer. Be sure to avoid them, otherwise they will not survive for more than 3 days!

1. Sunburn

The ultraviolet rays are strong in summer and succulents are easily sunburned. Especially at 1-2 pm every day, when the sun is the strongest, succulents will be quickly burned by the sun and it will be difficult to recover.

Solution: Shade

For succulents grown outdoors or on south-facing balconies or windowsills, moving them back and forth between the house and outdoors when the sun is strong is not a long-term solution. It is best to provide shade, which can be done with a small piece of shade net.

2. Suffocate to death

In summer, the respiration of succulent leaves weakens, and they mainly rely on the roots to breathe. If the soil you use is not breathable enough, it is likely to suffocate the plant!

Solution: Change the soil

You can still change the soil in summer, just be careful not to damage the roots. Coconut bran soil and granular soil are both relatively breathable soils. You can also add some turquoise, medical stone, volcanic stone, etc. to make them moisturizing and breathable.

3. Steaming to death

The summer heat is like a steamer for succulents. If you are not careful, they will be cooked. Not only that, improper watering can also steam the succulents to death.

Solution: Place it in a ventilated environment and pay attention to the time of watering

Balconies, windowsills, corridors and other ventilated places are the most suitable for growing succulents. It is hot everywhere in summer, but without ventilation, moisture cannot evaporate or be absorbed, and will be steamed in minutes.

Dormant succulents should be watered less in summer, but not without watering. Watering should also be done in the morning (before 9 o'clock) and evening (after 7 o'clock) when the temperature is relatively low. At other times, the temperature of the flowerpot is high, and the water poured into it becomes hot.

4. Death from thirst

Dormant succulents grow slowly, but they are still growing, so they need the necessary water. Moreover, the weather is hot and the evaporation is fast, so the leaves will wrinkle in a short time.

Solution: Water in small amounts and frequently

If your succulent's leaves wrinkle easily, it means it is not yet clearly dormant. If you find that its leaves are wrinkled, water it immediately. It is better to water it in the morning and evening. Water it a little each time, not too much.

5. Starvation

Succulents, like most green leafy plants, absorb carbon dioxide from the air to perform photosynthesis. In the high summer temperatures, the succulents move more and more slowly, become more and more "hungry", and eventually become weak.

Solution: Place in a ventilated place or use artificial ventilation

A ventilated environment can keep the succulents alive. If you really can't find a ventilated place, you can give the succulents a small fan. Be careful not to get too close.

6. Bite to death

Don’t think there are no insects in summer. On the contrary, in summer, there are not only natural enemies of succulents: scale insects, but also other small black flies flying around succulents~

Solution: Manual removal, alcohol insecticide

Succulents are relatively small, so you can use a cotton swab dipped in some alcohol (60% concentration) to wipe the leaves with insects, which can not only kill insects but also kill bacteria.

7. Black Death

Summer is the peak season for black rot in succulent plants. You never know when they will suddenly die of black rot. Black rot is mostly caused by root rot. Huahua has talked about the treatment of succulent root rot many times.

Solution: ventilation and water control; avoid infection

If you want to prevent root rot and black rot, you must provide succulents with a ventilated environment and control watering so that they do not rot. Otherwise, it will be hot and humid, and it will be strange if they do not rot! In addition, once you find leaves with black spots, remove them immediately to avoid infection.

8. Death from heat

When it comes to summer, even people feel hot, let alone a small piece of meat. Unlike the natural environment, domestic succulents are planted in small pots, which heat up quickly and make them more likely to die from heat!

Solution: The basin method

In addition to moving the succulents to a cool and ventilated place, you can also put a large flower pot (preferably a ceramic pot) outside the succulent pot. This is not "adding clothes", but enhancing heat insulation to prevent the succulents from being damaged by the heat.

9. Die of torture

Succulent growers get nervous in the summer, changing the location of their plants, watering them, and turning on the air conditioner... The succulent plants that were originally in good condition are now tormented to death.

Solution: Observe in time and adapt to changes

Huahua thinks that the succulent situation in each household is different, so it is necessary to "prescribe the right medicine for the right disease." Succulents prefer a stable environment, so don't do it blindly, just adapt to the situation.

I hope everyone's succulents can escape this "nine deaths"

Have a smooth summer
