How to repot peony flowers

How to repot peony flowers

1. When to change the pot

If the flower is not very big, you can change it once a year. If it is a relatively large flower, you can only change half of the soil every year. This will not have a big impact on it and avoid the risk of it dying.

2. Choice of flower pots

It is best to use a deeper clay pot to repot it, and choose a suitable pot according to its size. Generally, the pot should be 30cm to 40cm deep and 25cm to 30cm in diameter. In addition, we can put harder plastic foam at the bottom of the pot to make the soil more breathable.

3. Soil Preparation

Because its roots are fleshy and relatively developed, it will easily die if there is too much water. If there is insufficient nutrition, it will grow thin. You should choose a soil with good drainage and richness. You can use ordinary garden soil plus rotten leaves or sandy soil to prepare it.

4. Treatment of plants

Clean its roots and then soak them in disinfectant for half an hour. It is best to add some rooting powder to the disinfectant. Because its roots are relatively long, you can soak them in a container that allows the roots to stretch out. Take it out and dry it, then trim the roots, remove all rotten and old roots, leave the new and thinner roots, and cut the roots shorter according to the size of the new pot.

5. Water moderately

After changing the new pot, place it in a cool area with wind. The branches and leaves also need to be properly pruned, and diseased and thin branches also need to be cut off, leaving 4-6 branches on each flower. After repotting, water it thoroughly. Generally, water it when the soil on the surface turns a little white. Do not water it too much.

6. Reasonable fertilization

After changing the pot, you should add fertilizer to help it recover better. In daily maintenance, starting from the beginning of May, you should add animal manure or cake fertilizer to it once a month, and sprinkle ferrous sulfate on it once or twice when it rains.
